Sup y’all.
Got some info for ya.
I got a ctr IM/TB a while back in hopes of it bolting right up to my sport, but It won’t without modification which I’m working on. The bottom of the ctr tb is obstructed by the shifter cable holder for me, but like I said I’m working on it.

Anyway… I happen to stumble upon a 17 accord 3.5 throttle body for 40 bucks shipped. Didn’t know if it would work, I knew it was bigger, bought it anyway.
Turns out the j35 TB pn: 16400-5G0-A01 bolts up to ctr IM.

Ctr tb:
62.5/60.5mm inlet/outlet
2.75 in coupler req.

J35 TB:
67.5/64.5mm inlet/outlet
3.00 in coupler req.

Ctr IM inlet: 65.5mm. Almost perfect for the tb outlet.

Had to shave the bumps down on IM with my dremel and shift TB towards the bottom right because there’s a breather hole on tb and won’t seal if centered. Still seals after shift.

I don’t have results as I don’t have a type r but just passing along info I learned and maybe an r owner wants to tackle this very affordable upgrade and post results.

Do what you will with this information bestowed upon you.

Ps. I cut the coolant pipes bc I have it already deleted on my car

I have a PRL hard pipe inlet from their boost tube kit and I believe I also have a 3” 90 silicone coupler because the PRL hard pipe doesn’t have a 90 degree bend to the throttle body. Im currently at 686 whp 575 ft lbs on a custom Rampage Garrett g30-770 ewg, speed density, port injection controlled by Motec, ID1700x, redline @ 8700 rpm. I’ll report back if it changes the curve, adds power at what rpm, and improves throttle response. Im gonna send it to Maxbore to further enlarge it. Maybe Maxbore can weld that opening and mill the mating surface to orientate it the normal way.

There is no problem, just seeing if this gives me a little better mid to top end response
Your boost sensors will tell you if there is a restriction.. there was no difference in pressures at 35 psi and 800hp

Only way to find out is to do it and test on the dyno. You had said it’s a possible restriction. We’ll see if if helps or hurts velocity.

This would increase airflow not pressure.

I don’t think turbo cars would have problems getting airflow in like NA cars

I know, it is forced induction but there’s got to be an effect enlarging the throttle body. We’ll see if I gain anything. I suspect it to be up top. My head has stock type R camshafts but off the shelf Ferrea Valve train, port and polished removing the fuel tumbling restriction from 160 cfm to about 300 cfm and redlines at 8700. I may get the 4P TR2 to further improve the VE before the dyno tune session. Im also running a modified Fujitsubo ti exhaust which was 70mm piping and now is 80mm ti piping except at the front pipe where it necks down. My fabricator is just waiting on an 80mm ti 3 bolt flange he ordered for me.

It would be best to dyno before and after the tb has been installed

There’s a 1mm difference between the Im and tb. I don’t think modification to the tb is needed.

So should I just install it? 😅 Did you open up the metal gasket to match the opening of the bigger throttle body? If the gasket is smaller I’ll trace the opening on the metal gasket with a fine sharpie and use a Dremel with a drum sander to match it.
