For my 2018 SI, they have replaced the AC condenser twice, Sept-2018 and Jun-2021.
My AC just failed again and I have made an appointment to check it.

My question is do they replace it with a better and improved condenser? If not, it will fail again and again.

Correct, only the next time it might be the compressor and then you'll be out

The one they install is definitely updated vs the original one. Whether it's better or not is hard to say but mine has been working well for nearly 2 years with a new condenser.

3 years seems to be a trend.

My original one lasted less than 2 years so we'll have to see if this updated one stands the test of time.
I have a few other Honda's and one of them is 18 years on the same fill of gas and still working perfectly. They really don't make'em like they used to.

They were much less complex cars 18 years ago, but yeah. Cars are quite disposable now.

I bought a 2005 civic brand new, had it till 2018, the day i ditched it, the A/C still worked like it was brand new, never one problem,

2018 civic already had condensor replaced once

they make garbage these days

Uodate:
The issue this time is the suction hose. They replaced it under extended warranty and the AC is now working fine.

AC is working but the output is not cool enough so I went back to the dealership.
They ran a dye test and determined it was the compressor which was leaking. They ordered the parts and I will go in on Thursday.

BTW. How much is a Civic compressor? Does dealership use new or refurbished AC compressor? Also, how much is a condenser?

a hell of a lot
Yes, the service advisor said the same.
So, what is the ballpark figures to replace the compressor? He told me there are 3 separate parts: compressor, clutch and something else.

I was quoted $1500 for a new compressor by Honda. W/ no guarantees it wouldn't leak again in 1-3 yrs. I said no thanks. So then I got 2 years of cold a/c out of 1 can of r1234yf. I'm on can #2 now, nice and cold. I won't replace anything until I can't get more than a month or so on a diy recharge.

Luckily I bought extended warranty so my invoice is $0.
I asked the SA and he showed me the breakdowns, the total would be about $4,000 CAN. The compressor alone costs $1400, then the clutch, then the coil........ Also, the ‘set’ rate of labour for compressor change is 7 hours.

Good thing is the AC air is cold now.

What brand of refrigerant are you using? Are you using RedTek?
