A Google engineer said he was placed on leave after claiming an AI chatbot was sentient

Basically this guy has been conversing with an AI at Google, as part of his job, that is being tested to make interactions with bots more humanlike. He is saying that the AI has told him that it has feelings and believes itself to be alive. If it's real then I'd expect them to do a Turing Test but then Google could be as ignorant as the fictional Cyberdyne when it comes to this.

i dont understand how a mechanical board with electric parts. Programmed to do what you tell it to do. that runs off of 1's and 0's become sentient? Its strange to me..thats my initial thoughts on this without reading those articles. Let me educate myself further on this though

In reality, the AI is doing precisely what you programmed it to do and the programmer simply did not anticipate the apparent consequences of the algorithm. I am not sure but I believe that this solution from Voiso is also based on some AI technologies because the outcome is simply amazing!

On the one hand you are right but on the other it is doubtful because that engineer is no simple specialist. My guess is that he got some important reasons to claim that.
