Hello All,

Bought a used 2018 Civic LX with 34k miles back in February. Just noticing now that when I'm in traffic or parked the A/C blows out warm air.

Is this one of the symptoms of a bad condensor or bad compressor?

I don't want to bring to dealer for them to pin the issue on something else and then I have to pay out of pocket. I can fix most issues myself, but if it's covered under the 10yr warranty, I rather the dealer take care of it.

First thing to check would be your cabin air filter and if it is dirty, replace it. If that doesn't resolve the issue you will need to take it into a Honda dealership for diagnosis to verify if there is something wrong with your AC system.

I was like that to. But I brought it in twice and they just took it no question ask. But during that it was more of waiting game as in when they had time to fix it. Sucks it happen to you during the summer though.

Cabin filter was changed when I first got the car in February along with oil filter, cvt fluid, coolant, brake fluid and pretty much anything else I could change.

check the condenser for dirt/build-up. make sure fan turns on. check refrigerant charge. inspect for leaks.
I did confirm the fan was on right behind the condensor. I do have to check for R1234yf leaks though. I wonder if it's UV light detectable off the bat

I haven't checked my in cabin air filter since I swapped it 5 years ago. It wasn't too dirty then. I imagine the present one needs replacing. But my A/C did suddenly shift from fine to barely cooling from June to July. NJ has had a heatwave which made it hell to drive with no A/C. My present commute is about 80 minutes drive and with the windows down in 100F 80% humidity it was pretty uncomfortable. At first I thought the A/C wasn't working at all, but then I disabled the A/C and the air became even warmer. So I stopped using the A/C because I didn't want the system to sustain damage from running dry. I didn't want to bring it to the dealer for service after seeing others posts about being hit with a bill and sometimes being told the problem isn't covered. My compressor was replaced years ago covered by the TSB and I honestly can't remember if they charged me or not.

After researching here, reddit, and youtube... I purchased a 3 pack of R-1234yf Honeywell branded cans and a valve with gauge. I put one can in, and the air conditioning is working great. Pressure wise it was in the green area though about 10psi below what the chart suggested for the ambient temperature at the time. Rather than waste another $40 can, I saved the other two cans for the future. I'll reply back on thread when I need to use the next can. I hope my experience helps someone else.

you should have the dealer fix it if you covered under warranty or recall , 2023 I got the recall letter in the mail about the faulty ac on the civics, took it to honda dealer for free repair and they just filled with freon cause less than a year later it was blowing hot air again. 2024 I took it back to honda they took off the dash and said my compressor was bad charged me $2,700.00 to fix it, I took it to 3rd party and got it replaced for $1500 but after 1 week it leaked all the freon again, they fix the seals and it still leaked and they couldn't find the issue I got rid of the car

I had my ac quit on me just recently since 2018 when I bought it new . I thought the condenser has finally leaked so I put some refrigerant and stop leak with uv dye looked for any possible leak but seems to be ok. I noticed the refrigerant gauge is faulty so I filled some more in it with a new gauge now ac blows cold air again.

The AC in my car is still working, but it's getting weak again. I paid a bunch of money to have the system recharged w/dye a couple years ago, so now I need to get out the UV flashlight and look for leaks. Hopefully, it's the condenser or compressor seal. Those are covered by an extended warranty. There is NO recall, and the only way the dealer will fix the car for free is if one of these components is proven to be faulty. Otherwise, we have to pay.

If they removed the dash, then they would be replacing the evaporator not the compressor. The compressor you would change from the engine bay above/below or even take the bumper off. This they put dye in it to find out where it was leaking from?

You gotta have a leak somewhere. Keep me posted on where it is....Maybe it's on the back side of the condensor where you can't see it?

Let me know how long the can lasts you....Do those cans come with the oil already in them?

Ill check again next week. I put it on 40psi if I loose pressure fast pretty sure I have a leak.
