It's been a little bit since my last update, and a lot has been worked on
The cheap but well performing American Bass 3.5 popped. Decided to go ahead and replace my front stage.
First off, a Dayton audio aluminum cone 3.5 full range. It's got a neodymium magnet, so it's compact and fits in the dash space easily. Good, tight, clear sound
I installed it in the usual manner with foam tape and a speaker adapter
Next up, I got ring radiators. The diymobileaudio forums are high on these Vifa styled models as bang for the buck high grade. I can tell why. Great clarity and imaging in the stock places, even without dsp tuning. These are from Peerless
They ended up fitting in the stock space with a little neoprene to help them sit snuggly and dampen any vibration
Next up I replaced my door speakers. CDT has great monthly specials, and I picked these up for a great price. They came as a set with a wideband mid/tweeter combo I'll be using in my truck. There's also a package with tweeters available for these right now. This model are the HD-6CV
Mounting took some work. The magnets are huge and needed massaging to get the speaker terminals to clear. I have an ok seal at the moment using butyl rope. But I'm eventually going to try cutting a new custom spacer out of plastic and possibly cutting the door panel a little.
The bass response is stellar and punchy. I can only imagine how good they would sound with dsp and tuning
Next up, chassis bracing
Got the PRL tower brace and a Cusco power brace
They work! Didn't notice as much in daily driving, but I did in the mountains. Makes me more eager to finally install my Type R RMM (eventually...ly...ly...) and get a rear sway bar
Most recently, I got the new PRL delrin shift knob and installed my Hybrid Racing shifter assembly I've had since a black Friday or so ago
I love love love this shift knob. The size is just right for my hand. The shape is gorgeous (and just right for my hand). It's light, but not too light thanks to the weighted collar. As a bonus, the logo cutout adds a nice tactile grip point.
My new favorite shifter knob
It's now on my new favorite shifter. I can't compare it to the Acuity shifter, I forgot to try one out last weekend when I had the opportunity. I can say the way it comes feels great as far as spacing goes. The spring it came installed with (heavy) feels awesome.
I ran it through the paces in the mountains, and it was fast and effortless. If you don't care about having the adjustability, it's a great deal
I keep talking about how things felt in the mountains. That's because I just got back from the CivicX Wake the Dragon!!!
Such an amazing get together. Sorry so pic heavy. More to come...
