Went back to the rollers with q16, made about 30 more all over from Sunoco e85r. 2 less psi and the same timing as before.

2017 do have different rods, so prolly not with them but all else can make some power. Clutch doesent like this tho. Slipping 15-20 rpm.
Did someone actually confirm that with side by side pictures?

Awesome build.
Luke at 4p did. Same shape, different material. 17 year model engines used a rod not even available to be replaced with. The superceded number was already in the system but the cars were assembled with old rods

Very interesting. I'm pretty sure there are some 400+hp FK2 out there.
How did they determine it was a different material? Brinell and/or Rockwell Hardness? Looking at the crystal structures?

How did they determine it was a different material? Brinell and/or Rockwell Hardness? Looking at the crystal structures?
@turbociv910 I am asking because I have a 2017. These details would be beneficial other 2017 owner that plan to make more than 400 hp. It's a lot easier swapping out rods from the bottom than replacing the whole block.

If it was just based off a part-number, that does not mean the material changed. It could mean the supplier changed. Perhaps, for cost or location to where the engine was to be built. For example, the oil filter now ends in A02 instead of A01. In addition, have you noticed that there are bunch of different part numbers for the same wiper blades.

I believe the original part number in question is 13210-RPY-G10, which is replaced by 13210-6B2-A00.

The middle digits are for the car(s) or platforms it fits on. It is possible they changed it because the rods were being used on the Accord and RDX. and/or they needed to make a small dimensional change to fit the different pistons. IIRC, the A in the third set of digits means North America, which is where those engines are built now.

the rods are a different color/material. Luke from 4p posted about it in the fk8 owners fb group. The rods were used in 2017 BUT if you bought rods from the dealership in 2017 they gave you the 2018+ rods. He said the only rods he has that are bent are all the same color and out of 2017 cars, never available from the store.

Not saying you cant blow up a 2018+, i am able to make this power becuase my turbo isnt small so the torque hit is much lower.
