Hello! As some of you may or may not know I was one of the original people to add splitter support rods to my Type R replica wing to increase stability and prevent wobbling or bouncing from pot holes or high speeds.

The rods have worked well enough but I wanted to try something new and practice some 3D modeling as well as 3D printing the parts I came up with.

In any case here is my latest version:

Honda Civic 10th gen 3D Printed Support Rods for Type R Replica Wing (Coupe) 164dff8f2fd5af1a2a0526359a227554_preview_featured

Super simple but hopefully effective and sleek as they shouldn't stick out as much as the rods. I print them in solid black PLA which gives them a nice stealthy look. The neat part about these is that they will not require drilling of the trunk and will be secured using automotive double sided tape.

Constructive criticism and design ideas welcome! I should have a couple pictures of them installed to add to the thread here in the next day or so.

Thanks! I think they’re a little bit more aesthetically pleasing than the metal support rods I had on before.

That’s pretty awesome, I was looking for something like this and only came across the Subaru ones. Maybe make them larger?

I personally wouldn’t like having them that big and with how little room there is under the spoiler it would be tough to design it both fit and look good.

I’ll mess around with the design and see if it’s possible.

Definitely, once I get the quality down and consistent as well as a final design I would be ready to sell them.

Do you have a Coupe? If so, once I have an extra set that I know works I could send it your way

Nice idea @ZephyrFlash . I would advise to get rid of any 'sharp' transitions and make some fillets to increase strength. The thing with 3d printing is that those 'sharp' points are where all the stress will be and it being layered material will likely separate there. If you make those fillets then it'll not long look more streamline but it'll be stronger as well.

Drew something up real quick on Onshape to show what I mean. Forgot the top little curved area that comes into contact with the spoiler/wing.

Feel free to PM me. 3d printing and CAD modeling are right up my alley.

Awesome! I love the mockup and all of your points are great value adds. The challenge I've got right now is having to print it in 2 separate pieces (build capacity isn't quite sufficient height wise) which obviously isn't ideal.
