Well that HP and torque increase might cover the additional weight...

I'm just sayin

Why do car designers want to take small nimble cars and fatten them up? Just read a blurb in the PCA monthly mag that said the reason behind the Porsche size/weight increases over the last few model types was due to the increased technology requiring more room and the future need for battery space when they go EV. I cry B.S. on that! "They" are killing the fun in "drivers cars" for a public who wants creature comfort and all the bells and whistles.

GOD I'm old...sigh.

Nice! I’d be interested to see the dyno graphs on these. Honda has a way lately of shifting torque to where it’s needed in the power band while not increasing peak numbers by much - Like on the new Si. This small increase and the tires explain the faster lap times at Suzuka.

Wow. That’s a bit disappointing.

I feel the FK8 will be faster around the track.

makes me want to keep my 19’ CW even more now.

Guess to make up the weight increase.

If you have an fk8 this seems to be a lateral upgrade.

just waiting on the next gen for the likely hybrid/electrification. That future type R will be something else.

I can with 100% confidence tell you the FL5 will wipe the floor with our car. There's literally no way Honda made this thing slower with the additional cooling, 5+ years of chassis suspension development, and the new tire package.

I'm confused. Isn't 243kw/330PS closer to 325 hp?
The FK8 was 316hp in the other markets too. They adjust the ratings for the SAE calculation I believe.
FK8 = 306/316
FL5 = 316/326
So the additional power in the FL5 = 316hp in USDM/CDN markets

I expected as much with it being the same power plant. I think people were just shooting a little too high with expectations of it being around 325+ although potential is probably better for tuning of stock turbo…

Good observation but if I don't see these numbers internally then I won't believe it. I get my spec sheet (power and pricing) next month

Looks like Honda just made an incremental improvement, just enough to say the new one is "faster" than the outgoing model. Personally I think the main perf difference is the new venting and cooling, which remains a weak point of the FK8 (even post mid cycle refresh).

The marginal power gains are 99% for the press, since you can trivially achieve the same with any off the shelf tune.

Traction was already an issue this isn't a surprise. I think it'll be fatter power in the middle, about same torque to keep wheelspin in check and overall faster with the improvements.

Imma still go hug my voltron car though.

I was wondering if 316bhp of the JDM FK8 would translate to the FL5 for the US and Australia. Honda seems to always give us a detuned spec.
