I’ve definitely heard it during low speed 1st and 2nd gear crawling around but just not as pronounced as it is in this car the noise really didn’t concern me at first until I drove my buddies si and didn’t hear it from his hell I wouldn’t even worry about it as long as I knew it wasn’t a sign of impending bearing failure or a gear about to fail
every single manual i've ever driven makes whining noises to an extent. especially on deceleration.

I may drive it a bit longer to see how it goes and see if it gets worse. My 600,000 mile accord v6 6 speed was quiet besides the isb sounding like gravel flinging inside the trans at idle rofl

Some gear wine will always be present, and it sounded acceptable but a little loud in the video. I would compare the gear wine to the reverse gear because it's a straight cut gear and therefore should be louder. If second and third are louder than reverse, it might mean a larger transmission issue.

I will say from my experience that changing transmission fluid does make a slight audible difference. Also, using a gear boundary lubricant (PowerUp NNL 690 in my case) worked for me.

I may try a fluid change then so you used power up nnl 690 in your si for the whine?

Yes... When I did a transmission fluid change (@ 38k miles) I added a little bit of the boundary lubricant to the transmission fluid. After about 100 mi or so, my second gear wine was noticeably quieter. Either that or my placebo effect is really strong.

Not sure if it was just the new fluid or the boundary lubricant, but I'm pretty sure I noticed a difference.

Mine is even louder in 2nd gear when it's cold outside. But it's still with the oil it came from the factory.
My mileage is around 50k miles/80k kilometers.

How long has it been like that

I bought it with 18k miles and the third gear was silent but the second was making low-level sounds.
It became worse in the last 20k miles. Maybe also due to my impatience waiting the gearbox accepting the gear change from 1st to 2nd. (In my EJ6 i don't have to wait to change my gears, it's always crisp). So i pushed the 2nd gear often into it's place, which is probably a bad idea.
But after all it's Honda's fault. They kind of f.... up the interaction of gearbox, dual mass fly wheel and rev hang on this car.

My gearbox has some issues with the 2nd, 4th and 6th gear. Most of the time it feels notchy and not right going into them. The 1st, 3rd and 5th gear is always crisp.

My transmission feels the same way with the even gears they feel like cracking a potato chip when they slot in lol this is the first newerish Honda I’ve bought and it’s my last I really should’ve done some research on the 1.5t and trans before I went out and bought one from being hyped up after a test drive there are much better vehicles for the price unfortunately although this car feels insanely light on its feet and there are times I should not of made a corner if it wasn’t for this chassis

Smooth shifting isn't a given on a manual transmission. Skill and timing are paramount as is some understanding of everything involved with it. Some people think a sports car should shift quickly, but the timing of the clutch with the pull of the shifter has to be in balance. Our stock clutch system has delays built in to lessen the shock load to the transmission. People remove these delays to improve clutch feel and more direct response. I have done these mods as well and the shifting has improved in a racing condition, but a little more annoying for daily driving. I said all of this to suggest smooth shifting may need to be learned by completely disengaging the clutch before moving the lever and add a little slip when releasing the clutch.

This whole gear whine thing should be very subtle on a stock trans with stock mounts. I have rebuilt many of our transmissions and they are all quiet with stock gears. A fluid change should be the first thing you try and OEM fluid on a stock trans is fine. If the whine is still present and easily picked up on video, this is too loud to be ignored in my opinion. There may be contamination causing the gear mesh to sound loud. If you are lucky enough to still have a warranty then take it in, otherwise change the fluid and hope for the best.

i whole heartedly agree there’s definitely wear going on whether it’s bearings or gears I’ll try a fluid change and see what happens if that doesn’t do it hopefully my third party warranty adjuster don’t come out and tell me to pound sand
