Hopefully, 27Won will come out with this soon and then maybe a drop in turbo? So far the market for the FK8 has been great with all the upgrades. What do you guys think?

CTR DOWNPIPE
For the FK8, we are rounding out our Cat-back exhaust system by allowing you to get the full turbo-back exhaust system with the addition of our upcoming high-performance catted downpipe. This will be a 100% direct bolt-on to both our Catback system, the stock system, and most other aftermarket systems. It will feature a 200 cell race catalytic converter and provisions to retain the OEM heat shield. With stainless steel castings and our bell mouth opening, this downpipe will be sure to make lots of power on your FK8.

I'll be sure and write up some design blogs along the way as we get closer to release.

I know a downpipe is a rather simple part but is there any design features you guys would like to see?

You realize any modification to the emission control system is an EPA no no, right? Their terminology is very broad. I only bring it up since it was mentioned somewhere above.

Now to answer your question:

Catless. Or better yet, sell us the flanges, so we can make our own test pipes out home. EPA can not control flanges, same way they can't control raw pipe. It's not against the law to sell flanges, or pipe. But i also realize the fines the EPA leveling on retailers, distributors, and sellers is mind blowing enough to scare people.

Screw the EPA. They're trying to convince the general public that cars are the major polluter with CO2 emissions when in reality big manufactures are responsible for over 70% of pollution and have done practically nothing about it. Trying to pass the blame and make the general public pay for it again.

To continue your rant, if CO2 is the problem, why are we using catalytic converters to convert 95-99% of CO into CO2?

It isn't entirely about reducing CO2 since the catalytic converter actually produces CO2. Unfortunately, there are things worse to our air, health, climate than CO2. Let's take a quick look at the reactions in place:
  • 2NO -> N2 + O2: Nitric acid to nitrogen and oxygen. Nitric acid really isn't good to have in the air since it can cause irritation to eyes, throat, lungs, and teeth, it's corrosive (it's an acid). Additionally, it can cause coughing, chest pain, and issues with breathing. Additionally, it can cause acid rain. This can also cause hazy and foggy air as well.
  • 2N2O -> N2 + 2O2: Nitrogen dioxide to nitrogen and oxygen. Again, not really great to breath in as it can irritate the airways causing coughing, wheezing, or difficulty breathing. This is also a contributing factor towards acid rain and the hazy foggy air that can occur if concentrations are high enough.
  • 2CO + O2 -> 2CO2: Carbon monoxide and oxygen to carbon dioxide. I don't think I should explain why carbon monoxide is a bad thing to have in the air. In short, too much of it will kill a human being. Though this requires a very high concentration. On the other hand, having higher concentrations still has an effect on how well your blood is oxygenated putting people with heart issues at higher risk.
  • HC + O2 -> CO2 + H2O: hydrocarbons and oxygen to carbon dioxide and water. This is probably the one thing that actually does relate directly to global warming. Left alone hydrocarbons will react with nitrogen oxides to produce ozone which results in smog.
I remember when I had a visiting scholar from China here in the US for about a year. Before he left, we asked him what his favorite thing about the US was. His response? The blue sky and how much easier it was to breath. It's true that we should be reducing CO2 emissions to help fight global warming, but the CO2 output from the catalytic converter is probably far better than the stuff that was there before it. It's still true that if you can get away with not driving your car, it is better for the environment.

Because carbon monoxide and the various nitrogen oxides the cars release without a cat are highly toxic to humans.
