I think 265 is too much for 8.5 set up...

I'm just trying to avoid the stretched look. and 265/35 is about the same diameter/circumference as my stock 235/40

265 has nothing to do with diameter or circumference.
The first 3-digit number stands for the width of the tire, and second 2-digit number stands for the thickness of the tire.
I was saying 265 for 8.5 is too wide. 245/35/18 should be good enough.

265 is fine if you don't want the stretch look. You are not going to rub your fenders with 8.5.

Imo, it would look bulged with 265 on 8.5 rims. (depends on the tire brand)

I wouldn't do it. I'd do it on a 9" wheel, but preferably a 9.5" wheel. Believe me, I thought about running 265/35/18 on my Civic, but only in the rear which would give a little safety margin regarding any accidental oversteer since I'm running the Type R sway bar...not that I think that's really a valid concern of mine, but my wife will be driving the car and she's a lot less in tune with all that stuff.

Prob is, it is hard enough to find a wheel for our cars that looks good and fits right let alone a wheel that is avail in a matching staggered setup with the proper offset and even less if you're not willing to compromise handling in favor of looks by running excess neg camber just to get something to clear the fender. Ultimately, I think a 245F and 275R would look pretty dang cool, but might be kinda silly. But I'd almost consider it.

But since u asked and I just a few mins posted about my setup, I'll post a pic of my new setup here. 18x9 +40 with 245/40/18's.

I agree with CMZKCMZK. 265/35 is just too much tire for an 8.5" wide wheel.. 9" minimum, preferably 9.5".
