Trying to get rid of my 16 steelies, I used to have 235/45 R17s, but didn't like the ride, a bit noisy, partially because tires were the cheapest ones on tire rack, I have 255/45 R20 on my Odyssey and ride is smooth and quiet, trying to achieve similar result on my Civic, anyone use 245/45 R17 ? Any pics?

Kind of a confusing post because you mention 16" steel wheels but using 17" tires...

Anyway... the best size for a combo of comfort, lower noise and OEM speedometer accuracy is 215/50-17. You could go 225/50 as well but your speedometer would be off by 2%.

245/45 will need something like a 17x9 wheel for proper fit. And it most certainly will not give a noticeably better ride or reduced road noise compared to the 235/45 you mentioned.

In terms of ride quietness only, that's 100% based on tread pattern and tire construction so you'd want a Grand Touring as opposed to a High Performance tire. Tire Rack's reviews include a noise rating.

Keep in mind that an Odyssey has a LOT more sound deadening material than a Civic.

Also keep in mind that you bought the cheapest tires Tire Rack had. That doesn't always equal lots of noise, but it's NEVER going to equal smooth and quiet, with great traction. For the most part ... you get what you pay for.

lol yeah, sorry :) It is indeed confusing. I was going to say that currently my civic is on 16s, it is LX. Few years ago I had 235/45 R17s that I got from Tire rack, but I wanted to save cash so I got the cheapest tires they had, something like $70 a piece, summer tires and sold those due to noise and discomfort. Now 2 years later I want to get a nice set of wheels, but with better tires, quieter and with better handling. Number one requirement is comfort, so higher side wall I guess.
I'm looking for 225/50 R17s off Accord, but no luck yet.

You are right, I was just cheap and got the worst summer "high performance" tires tire rack had at that moment. I should look into grand touring now
