255/40/17 is your best setup for this car, and it will fit fine for 17x8.

245/45/17 will not rub, but I am not a big fan because of ‘mushy’ sidewall. Personally I think this size sucks!

Hello,

I originally posted this in Wheels & Tires, but I thought it would be goo to post here too.

I am debating whether to go with 245/45/17 tires or 245/40/17 tires for autocross. They will be on 17x8 wheels. I have stock suspension on a 2017 Si coupe. Will 245/45 cause rubbing?
A lot of tires run wider than their advertised size. Lots of people have been putting the 255 tire on a 8” wheel with good success. That being said I went with the 245/45. No rubbing on stock suspension. If I remember correctly this tire size is 7mm taller compared to the stock Si wheel and tire combo so it actually gets rid of some of the fender gap. Another benefit of the taller tire is a bit more MPH in each gear. For some courses this could mean one or more less gear shifts.
