So I’ve just bought this car and I’m coming out of a 2020 Si. I’m used to my cold starts being 2000 rpms or higher in 35ish degree weather. The Type R is cold starting at 1100 rpms which isn’t the lowest in the world but low in my experience. Like clockwork it drops down in about a minute to 900.
Is it normal or is something off. Car has 29k miles on it.

Very normal and is usually when I know the car is good to drive. Most cars actually do this- start at a slightly higher RPM and then drop down shortly after during a cold start. I’ve never had a car at 2k RPMS though from the factory…that’s wild.

Yeah, I was reading about his 2,000 rpm or higher cold idle and thinking it's good he got rid of that Si. That's clearly not normal.

She* and I put 120k miles on the Si so I don’t even remember if that was factory or not. Anyways, thanks everyone! Sleeping a little easier tonight

Factory on a cold start 2020 Si is 1,700 at 32 degrees or below, then drops to 950 when coolant hits 125. then eventually 900.

I've dropped that to 1,200 cold, as the primary reason for the high rpm on cold start is not engine life, it’s to warm the catalytic converter up, which I don’t have.

its another emissions over fuel economy or engine life priority

**CORRCTION**, factory is 1,900 below 32 Degrees F.

1900 on the Si from factory sounds right, it’s why I’m having I guess a “culture shock” with a mere 1100 in the Type R. Everyone is agreeing it’s normal tho so alls well.

If you have a Hondata (not sure about k-tuner) you could always set it at 1,900 if it made you feel better.🤣

You can adjust idles, by temperatures even, with a K-Tuner also.
That was actually why I even asked to begin with lol my concern was someone tuned the cold start and didn’t relay that info over cuz I’ve seen it in the past. But again, apparently the RPMs are normal so I’m just catching myself up to speed, that’s all 😇

Mine does cold starts at near 2k for a second or two when it’s really cold
