$27k is probably the DSG w/ tech package if it's like the Elantra GT NLine.

The Kia Forte GT is very similar and goes for $20k discounted. Looks better too.

I don't think the N line is Hyundai trying to compete with the Si. It's more their way of saying "Hey Honda, you think your non-Si turbos are good"? ... Well, our N line is more powerful, has a better interior, more tech and more features".

The actual N would be their car to one up the Si. I know this is how Hyundai rolls because at one time I was privy to some inside info from Hyundai execs I knew through my forum.

There's another thread here that a guy started and everyone is basically saying how the Elantra is the ugliest car ever made. I get it, it's a Honda forum. Truth is, go to any other car forum and there are a lot of people saying how ugly our 10th gens are.

The posters in that thread also insist the N Line is trying to be an Si competitor. As a guy running a Hyundai forum for 20 years, I know that isn't the case. Hyundai squarely has their sights on bettering the non-Si turbos (better power, better handling, better interior, better tech, and in their mind... better looks). The full N model will be the Biermann-tuned Si beater.

I posted a few times in the thread including this comparison I think shows the Elantra is maybe better looking than people think:

When I first saw this car i thought it was hideous now it's slightly grown on me. I do like the back but I still think the front is ugly. Wish they went with a different headlight shape that wasn't as sharp and maybe a slightly smaller grill then I think the car would be pretty nice. Dual exhausts would've also looked really good

The rear is ...unique. I don't like duckbill spoilers, so I'm not fond of this one either.

I know, but it's shaped like one. The new supra did the same thing I didn't like that either.

It looks like a byproduct of Toyota Prius, Honda Clarity, and a Honda Insight having a threesome. ?

no biased opinion here but I saw a Veloster N in person and although it sounds nice that thing is hideous and the amount of space given is laughable lol the performace tho that thing is a monster but god it just looks so meh for how well it performs

It looks like a car you'd get in GTA when you start getting some decent money but not enough to buy a supercar.

Dunno about the US but Hyundai have never been famed for their high performance cars here in Europe. They're only just shedding their super-cheap reputation of the 90's/2000's so I wouldn't see this as much competition for the fancier Civics really. Not that I think it'll be really bad, but it just doesn't have the pedigree that the Civic does.
