Is there a reason you used lock washers?
That's all I could find and what @tinyman392 said above. Without 1/8" spacer/washer, the old boot retainer won't snap onto the new shorter nut. Refer to the following picture for clarity:

Anybody know where I can order the 2020 shifter? I ordered from hondapartsnow.com but they voided my order.

Yes I was aware of the height difference, I was curious if there was a reason for the type of washer. Sorry for the confusion.

Braved wind and rain and installed shiny knob and beautiful nut. Had to add two washers (between nut and knob) for the old boot to slip in. Shifter slides into each gate with greater ease due to heavier knob. Will need a little time to acclimate to the teardrop shape as I’ve always preferred orb. No test drive for another 3-4 days due to rain :(

Is the new locking nut needed for a 17-19? I thought I read it wasn’t, especially at the price tag they are trying to get.

It’s not, but I recommend using it since it drops the height of the shifter a good ½”. Note if you use the new nut, you’ll either need to use washers/spacers or get the new shift boot.

For anyone who's ordered a shift boot, it might be a little while before you get it. If you got the call saying the part was in, have them check to make sure it is the 2020 Alcantera shift boot and not a leather one. Had that happen twice, and it looks like Honda's supply chain has been sending the leather shift boots in place of the Alcantera ones for whatever reason. Disappointing for sure, but stuff happens :/

Do not order part number 77296-TGH-A11ZA, Alcantara shift boot. You will receive the standard boot and chrome boot ring from the 17-19 model. I received my order with the above part number and received the wrong item. The box is labeled with the above number.

I was aware of the leather shift boots being sent out, but my order was on backorder for a month so I figured that was corrected. I was apparently wrong and got the leather boot. If this has happened twice to you already, was yours purchased online or local dealership? I am trying to call the online dealer so I can return the boot.

Mine was ordered at a local dealership. There's another dealership in Cali that apparently has 20 leather boots and 0 Alcantera ones (they ordered Alcantera). They got word from Honda that the issue is in the supply chain, so online dealers might have similar issues. Lots of headaches all around, this COVID-19 thing probably doesn't help matters either.

Wait, is that or is that not the part number for the Alcantera shift boot? Is there a different number that actually gets you the right shift boot?

That is the part number for the Alcantara shift boot, and the number I ordered. In the box was the 17-19 shift boot.

OK, just making sure, that's what's happening it seems. Hopefully everything gets fixed soon.
