Hey all,

My 2020 Hatchback Sport had the dreaded EPB failure happen to it while parked outside my home. It rolled down our hill into trees and now there is some decently bad damage to the drivers side. I’m having trouble deciding who to contact first about this. I know this is a documented issue, and I have other vehicles, but I have never had a failure like this.

Sorry to hear the damage.

Was the shift stick in Parking position during the incident?

So... you didn’t leave it in 1st gear when you parked it on a slope?
First rule of manual transmissions, even if you set a parking brake.

Car was parked on level ground with the EPB engaged and trans in gear. This type of failure is extremely souring to my Honda experience. I am thinking of releasing the dash cam footage here, if Honda does not cover the damages.

Man, that sucks. I once had a car roll down a hill. For starters, I never used the e-brake because I knew it was prone to failure (i.e. permanently locking up). So I always left the car in gear instead. Worked like a charm, even on hills. Except that one time I left it in neutral...... doh!

Sorry to hear about your car.

If the car was in a forward gear with the parking brake on it should not have rolled backwards down a hill. If it did something more than a faulty EPB is going on.

The dashcam shows the car parked on my driveway, stationary, for about a minute after I applied the parking brake and put it in gear. The vehicle has 20,000 miles, and is under warranty. The footage shows the vehicle rolling backwards twice, once a small amount and then it rolls slowly down into a wooded area. At this point, your guess is as good as mine.
