The grill is the same for all years 16-18, and all platforms. My understanding is that they have a bigger tabs starting from the 2019 refreshed regular civic, so they can't be swapped.

I'm not sure about the hatchback grill for 2020 and those previous years 16-18.

As you can see, the 2020 has refreshed grill as well.

The Type R emblem spot is also permanently in the grill, one person I've seen modded the SI badge to fit but it'll never be gone for good without cutting the center section out.

Haven't seen mounting tabs being different but may have missed it I guess. Always thought I'd read they were direct swaps. (though similar years is more probable)

There are many tabs like these in the grill that are clipped into the little bumps on bumper cover. What you see here is 16-18.

Those little bumps in refreshed 19 civic are larger which clip better, so the tabs in the grill has to be wider as well to accept larger bumps in the bumper cover.

In other words, you can put refresh grill in older bumper cover, but not vice versa.
