Hello, should I get the K&N for 299 or the PRL cobra for 419? PRL cobra advertises 15 hp while K&N advertises 9. Is there a difference in sound? Thanks!

I can not compare the two because I never owned a K&N CAI. What I can speak for is the quality of the PRL products. The CAI system is great and sounds great to me. You get the woosh sound from the PRL if that is what you are looking for. I have had the PRL Cobra CAI for roughly 15k miles and have had no issues with it. Also there are no issues with the fitment.

I initially had the K&N Typhoon CAI on my Si & can honestly say, that it was awful as a supposed cold air intake (was able to monitor temp readings via Ktuner V2 & often intake temps were hotter with the K&N than the OEM box). It was also not good at keeping fuel trims even close to stable. Parted it out & went with the PRL Cobra. Really does perform as a true cold intake (my Ktuner can confirm), sounds awesome & is well made/ designed.
I wouldn't get hung up on the extra HP numbers, but anytime you can get cooler air into an engine, you are helping performance. HTH

Are you running the race or street version? I do not have a tune currently but plan to get one down the line

I currently have the race version & it DOES require a tune to run properly. Honestly you'll be more than happy with the Street version (I've run both) & even if you plan to modify the car, it will handle just about everything except a larger turbo. I was planning on adding a turbo & that is only reason I went with the Race. I've have since changed my mind, but keeping the race installed anyway.

If you're not in a huge rush, keep on eye on the member's classifieds section & you might be able to grab a good deal on a used. HTH

Great advice. I think too many people go for the race versions, because racecar, without realizing that unless you are significantly increasing airflow, you're not gaining a whole lot, but you are losing MAF resolution which can result in fuel trims that are a bit more all over the place.
