It just doesn't make sense to me for them to work for a cheaper version - the ones they're making are selling like hot cakes for a premium over MSRP.

Perhaps there are issues with sourcing the LED headlights and the R got the short end of the stick?
honda is all about profits as they should. it's volume and profits so sell more is the goal. can't fault them for that, but personally i wish they'd do it like lambo or porsche and have a "club racer" or "track focused" version and charge $10k-$15k more but less volume...it would sell for sure. oh well one can wish but then again honda is high volume not low volume.

Well in Canada, ALL of the Si's and I think sport hatchbacks come with the LED headlights, same as the CTR. They should start cutting those, before the CTR :)

The Civic halogen and LED headlights have received “poor” ratings from IIHS. This could be a reason they are making changes.

yep, most LED headlights have poor ratings in lumination in general. they are more energy efficient though than regular halogen or HID.

i like my audi LED headlights more...much brighter and sharper lines. the ctr LED lights work for me just fine and no complaints though ;-)

I thought they were black too but I think it's just a shadow/bad picture of the brochure. It looks body colored with a black bottom like they are now to me.
I'm guessing those are probably the accessory carbon fiber mirror caps.

So..... To make a full court press on a 2018 or wait it out for more details on the 19?

Not the official trim brochure but nevertheless, we knew this early last year anyway...

Those headlights look good here. I prefer the LEDs because I never want to change a headlight bulb again, but it is true that the lighting wasn't rated well by IIHS. I remember being a little shocked at the way they threw light compared to my old Accord, and not in a good way.

As for 19 vs 18, you've waited this long - I guess you could wait a little while longer. I don't know what else they'd change besides the volume knob. Maybe HP tune to Euro-spec? Plain rotors? I'm hoping it's just headlights and everyone suddenly wants our super cool 2017/2018's. Even more so than now.

The halogens were just bad in they didn't meet the minimum standard for almost all of the tests. The LED's actually passed some of their tests if only barely. The LED's failed badly when it comes to excessive glare.

https://www.iihs.org/iihs/ratings/vehicle/v/honda/civic-4-door-sedan/2017

The glare matters as I find Honda and Acura LED's are the worst on the road when it comes to oncoming or driving behind you as they are overly intense to look at.

I got the adaptive LED package on my M2 and they are just okay. I'm not as impressed with them as I have been with previous HID equipped cars.

I think the LED headlamps are decent on this car, I do miss the cornering lights from the VW though...

I'm going to assume that there are HID conversion kits for the SI currently right? Guessing that'll be the route to take in order to get some sort of decent light output if Honda goes this route. I'm in such an awk position because I actually like the SGP so I was all for the 2019 but this news about the poor SI lights and 100% carryover is incentive enough to look at a 2018. We'll see though, I waited this long what's another few months

yes, i like what i'm seeing and hearing. Makes my '17 more valuable. =) I hope they never offer our options again actually...:nixon: I am a bit disappointed regarding the spy shots though. I thought there'd be some new grill or led lights or minor bumper changes that improves cooling or at least some new OEM option that we could upgrade to the new MY if we choose.

I think it’s also worth noting that’s a European Type R and may reflect a base offering as they get two trims of Type R.

Call it denial, but I still can't believe it. All those spy shots of the bumper changes can't be for a future generation, so are we saying that the brochure represents a non-touring trim? If so, it still has the "touring" wing. Guess I'm just a little confused/disappointed if this is true.
