Hi guys,

I know that this might not be the right thread to ask this but I need your help, sorry.
I have a Civic Sport Plus hatchback (the one with premium audio and 11 speakers) from 2018 and I want to upgrade the factory headunit with a more performant one. Now, from what I know, the factory one has a built-in amplifier which allows sound to play when connected. I am searching for an aftermarket unit that might have this and I am hoping that maybe you can shed some light on this topic and help me with this.
I have attached a front and back picture with my headunit.

Thanks,
Victor

Wow.. Thanks "SCOPEYS" for this great post and detail infomation. I landed here researching for similar information for my '08 Civic EX Coupe with Premium Sound system.. If I assume, (sometimes dangerous), most of the logic is similar or the same, with different hardware and number of channels... I have leaned a lot here.

I wish there was a detailed post like this for the older Premium Sound systems..

I should NOT assume !!!

Front-Rear side.jpg

It is difficult to believe that this is correct !!!

Why / How can the Rear be so much lower than the Front ??
And a different Response shape as well .. less Bass at the Back.

Needs investigating ....

The people sitting in the Back are closer to the SUB, so they get that Bass more, but even so, they are missing so much of the Mid frequency bass, it does not make sense.
Maybe as well, the AMPS are different for different car, -- ie Not all Premium Audio Amps are the same, which might explain their different part numbers... ?
I said the same thing when I faded to the rear, I had to jump in the back to make sure they were actually working lol. Rears are just meant to be fill, they shouldn't be as loud as the front stage. I know one of the guys at Kicker who didn't even use rear speaker in his mustang build. And it was one of the most amazing things I've ever heard. He spent around 40 hours tuning this thing and it showed! Also TYVM!! for all this info, it has made my life sooo much easier =). I really appreciate all the time you've put into this project and sharing it!!

I skimmed this thread, but saw no mention of this product from Metra: https://axxessinterfaces.com/product/AXDSPX-HN3. This is a 10 channel DSP that bypasses the "premium" system amp and provides low level inputs for external amps and direct wires to all the speakers. It looks as though they have cracked the bitstream coming from the head unit. Anyone have experience with this item?

I’ve looked at that too and it seemed to be what you’re describing but I have not gotten one.

I have no idea what you should do, have you tried resetting the radio by turning the car off, removing the fuse for the radio and waiting a few minutes, then put the fuse back in, and then turn the car on. what you're doing is removing the memory connection to the radio so that if there is some remnant of the old OS lingering then you force the radio to reboot completely.
That's all I've got. My 2019 CTR has had no update whatsoever posted. Other than Navi map data anyway. My premium sound system is kind of crap but I've learned to live with it.

Thank for your answer

According to my research, amp repro file is needed.

Like service update 16-001.

What is your software version?

Hi, so you have or have not tried hard reset of radio?
If indeed this "update" was specifically for your radio then perhaps you can try the update again?
My radio is USA so not sure how my firmware would help you.
Our USA Type R have received no update for my year 2019.
I wish they would-Carplay is very buggy on our radios.
I will have to research how to find F/W version and let you know later.

This is what appears when I check the system
