As the title suggests, I would like to paint my valve cover wrinkle red to match some of the pieces I'll be adding to my engine bay. I've looked for guides/videos on how to remove the valve cover but it's only for the 1.5T L15B7 engines.

Has anyone painted theirs on their 2.slow? Any info/pics would be greatly appreciated.

It's only four bolts? I wasn't sure if there was another one hiding somewhere or if anything needed to be disconnected first. I appreciate the info homie! Love the way you did yours!

How did you paint your plastic cover? Did you strip the black paint off first?

I was looking at stripping the black paint, adding an adhesion promoter, actually painting it, and possibly adding an anodizing cover paint or clear coat after.

there is no paint, it's just raw plastic, black plastic.
What i did is a first sanded it a bit with 400 grit, then 1 layer of primer, 2 layers of red paint...let dry 48 hrs.
Then i picked a oil based sharpie paint pen and did the white lettering, then i did 3 coats of clear.

I did something similar when I repainted my louvers. Good info! I'll have to post some results once I'm all said and done. Might do the strut bar too while I'm at it.

Cheers,

Update. This is how it turned out. I went ahead and painted the top of the fuse box. I have plans to paint the intake pipe black and the strut bar red/black.

What primer if any did you guys use
For wrinkle red VHT?
Primer specifically for plastics. They sell em at Autozone or even Walmart I believe. Make sure it's for use on plastic or it's going to peel off. Don't forget to clear coat it too!
