After 2 weeks since lock down, I opened the hood to top off some fluid and noticed some sponge near top right side around the hood. The left side sponge looks good(first image) but the right side and center(second/third image) one looks scrubbed as if a rat got in or something. Can anyone please tell what do you think it is? And if I need to replace these sponge, where can I get it?

Thank you

Go get a replacement piece. Something definitely ate/chewed thru that.

Do you know what is that replacement piece or part number?

I tried searching for it but not getting an exact match. What would be the exact search term for it?
Honda Civic 15/16 fender?

Also is it an easy replacement or do I need to take it to a mechanic?

Thank you.
I am just curious how a rodent can get in as this is a new car.
The only way I can think of is under the engine unless its not sealed from the bottom by design? Could that be the case?

A mouse can squeeze through a REALLY tiny hole. Literally an opening much smaller than a dime.

I also think Honda uses soy-based insulation for underhood wiring which attracts rodents.

So, I went to Lowe's today and bought this TOMCAT Rodent 14-oz Rodent Repellent.
I sprayed it till soaked in 4-5 cotton balls and left it in various places in the engine. Also sprayed under the car, near tires and floor mats inside the car.
I am not sure what else I can try to keep them away or have them leave the engine bay. I don't see any rodent droppings and just those sponges bitten.
Any other recommendation?

Is your car parked outside?
Maybe putting a pile of soy beans or tofu under the car or inside the engine bay is the solution. Why would hungry mice want to chew on cables or foam if they had the real thing available. Besides, they might not be able to sniff out the soy in the cables if blinded by a pile of real soy. :hmm:

hire a cat to guard your car, I hear they take payment in feline cannabis and pets ;)
