hi all
I run my si from California to Az every week, 255 miles one way, about 4 hours at 80 + mph that’s 3000-3400 rpm for 4 hours each way. You think it’s bad for the motor?

Nope. If it were over 4500-5000 I would be concerned. Under 3500 is a non-issue.

I would say the answer is no. I drive my Si frequently between Northern California and Los Angles (360 miles one way), depending on traffic it can be a 7 to 10 hour drive, some of the drive is thru steep inclines. I am usually going around 80 mph, at 3000 rpm. The reason why cruising speeds are around the 3000 rpm range is due to keeping you in the mid-range power band so you don't have to downshift when you need to accelerate. As long as you keep your car maintained and change your oil when you are supposed to, you should not have any issues. One thing I have done is switched from the factory filled 0W20 to fully synthetic 0W30, I find that going into the higher RPM range is much smoother and quieter, but staying with 0W20 is also fine, as this is what Honda has tested

BTW, I am not an expert, there are probably people in this forum that know better than me, this is just from experience. I had a 1995 Toyota Corolla with a 5 speed (1.8 L engine) I used to frequently drive between Northern and Southern Cal, and with regular maintenance, it stayed in the family until it was traded in about 3 years ago with almost 200K on it, original engine and transmission. The only oil used was conventional oil (5w-30) for it's life

Thx, ya I switched to 0-30 at 1000 miles, the summer drives are 110+ degrees out there. Im not worried about max mpg. I change oil every 5000 miles, the reminder deally goes way to far to me, expecally when we bearly have 4 qts of oil

You are welcome. BTW, you can pretty much stick to the car's reminder, as Honda has tested what the best maintenance intervals are. I have a 2013 Toyota Sienna, and oil changes are every 10K with fully synthetic 0W-20 as the recommended oil. We already have 120K on it, we really beat on this van with a lot trips in grueling temps and mountain roads, and zero engine problems since buying it. It's up to you if you want to change more frequently, but I think you are probably wasting money
