how much are typically extended warranties and what do they cover ? Just powertrain or bumper to bumper like the 3yr/36k ?

I've never bought one because I'd just use the money for the repair. Also, I feel like if something did actually come up, they would say that it wasn't covered under a certain clause in the warranty that you'd need a law degree to actually understand.
The only stuff mine doesn’t cover are the wear and tear items...but I got the wheel and tire replacement so even that isn’t 100% accurate.

How much did you pay and how long is it for ? Is it based on mileage or years ?
I don’t recall the exact figure but I think it was around $400-500 but they will replace tires and wheels, with the exception of curbed wheels (so he said to bend it if I want a curbed wheel replaced and voila). Any tire shop in the country will replace the tires as Honda pays them on the spot. It’s for 5 years

I say it's worth it if its under $2,000. The saying is "always have $2,000 put aside for car repairs".

$500 is really cheap. I thought it was like $4,000. Even at Costco a set of tires will be close to $400 with mount and balance. Esp if it is comprehensive for 5 years. That's not a bad deal.

Mine came out at 1500 for total (extended warranty and oil change with tires and wheels coverage.) AFAIK, the original warranty includes roadside assistance. Not sure about the extended one, have to check tomorrow.

I think anything under $2,000 is reasonable depending on the timeframe. As someone mentioned before one or two good repairs will pay for the warranty. This is dealer service as well which isn't cheap.

Anything under $1,000 I'd definitely take esp if it covers wheels. i just replaced 4 tires on a car from Costco and it costs $400. I hit a pot hole and bent the rim and destroyed the tire, that was $475 to replace both at the dealer.

Extended warranty has always been interesting. The entire premise of it is that you are betting on your car to fail within X years. On the other hand, many people buy Hondas because they are supposed to be reliable.

I still got it for about $1200 for 6 years. It's the electronics that got me worried more than anything.

Yes Honda warranty is extremely cheap vs others, especially for the amount of yrs covered. With more and more electronics, there is always a high failure rate.

One dealership told my dad that if you want the new odyssey, then it is not a long term vehicle! because it is loaded with electronics and I believe their power steering is as well.. correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm pretty sure that the extended warranty prices will be going up next yr or year after.

Basic economy lessons: supply and demand, for sure. I now have a piece of mind for the next 8yrs. I dont think you can get it for anywhere less than 1k for 8yrs/120k miles tho. The one i bought has 2 options: 1005 for 100 deductible and 1110 for 0 deductible. Also got 100 discount on the oil change package. No surchage fees nor taxes.

my dealer started at like 1800 or something like that, and I just kept telling them I was going to buy the hondacare online. after a couple times lowering the price they matched it with a more comprehensive and longer warranty.

Use Saccucchi Honda, dude. Any authorized Honda can sell you those plans. They will register your car with Honda and send you everything to your address. Then you're covered nationwide.
