No one knows for sure but in the manual it says it helps with acceleration

Per the manual: "Drive (S): Used for better acceleration, increased engine braking, or driving in hilly terrain"

When I purchased the car, the salesman told me thats sport mode. So Ive drove it in S for a while and im pretty sure hes right.

Honestly the reason it's not an explicit 'sport mode' so that they can upset you the models with the actual button

It's all marketing thing really. If you have sport cvt what happens to the revs when you put it in sport?

All it does is hold the revs higher. It’s nothing like the sport mode in the Si or the R where dampers, steering and throttle are altered.

Yes, it keeps the base RPM higher. I'd say probably 500-800rpm higher.
