Hello,

I just bought a new 2017 Civic Hatchback Sport 6MT last week that only has the non-touchscreen 5 inch infotainment screen, which doesn't support Carplay/Android Auto.

I know there is a way to get root access on the 7 inch touchscreen for adding 3rd party apps, since the 7 inch touchscreens come with Carplay/Android Auto compatibility. Does anyone know if this is possible at all with the 5 inch non-touchscreens?

Thanks

Not the same platform. It's based on the 9th gen civics head unit which is powered by Honda proprietary software, so in a nutshell, no. New touch unit appears to run an OS similar to Android/Linux so this root access will not carry over to the smaller head unit.

Basically if you want that stuff it's time for a new HU. One can be had for less than $400.

I suggest the Pioneer AVH-2330NEX. HD radio, CP/AA, super stable doesn't bug out and require a "reboot". Get that and a Metra install kit. I have the 2330 in my truck, it is far better than the Honda Infotainment system.
