Surprised the WRX comparison has not been started yet. Both are kinda in the same price range. Also Subaru WRX is now available with CVT, both are originated in Japan(technically).

Any thoughts

Different class.

This is like the Civic vs M5 from yesterday.

The 2.0 Civic is comparable to the base Imprezza. From there it's a huge jump to the WRX... something that won't be compared by enthusiast mags until the Si gets released.

I get the whole wanting to compare the 1.5T because of CVT. But most people aren't cross-shopping 178 HP FWD platform with an AWD rally car with a 30%+ HP delta.

M5 is a full size car with a premium price. The wrx would still be considered a compact car. The civic is actually couple inches longer and less than an inch wider than the wrx.

Honda Civic Subaru WRX
Base price: $18,640 $26,595
Top model price: $27,335 $31,190
Engine: 2.0L/1.5L urbo 2.0L turbo
HP: 158HP/174HP 268HP
MPG Combined: 35mpg for both engine 24mpg
Drive tran: FWD AWD

These are just to name a few differences. All these numbers are pulled off of their website. Honda Civic has more standard safety feature than the WRX. The WRX would be $34,290 with their tech packages that adds in blind spot detection, push button start, premium audio, navi, etc. The Civic would still have more creature comfort tech. Add another $1,200 to the WRX for the CVT instead of the 6spd and you're ~$9,000 over a top of the line Civic. But then again it's like comparing apples and oranges.

Both the WRX and Civic are considered compacts. Compact is 100 to 109 cu ft. mid-size is 110 to 119 cu ft. This is passenger volume plus trunk volume. WRX is 108.6 cu ft. The Civic Touring is 109.7 cu ft which is right in between what is considered compact and midsize. All the other trims on the civic like the LX are over 110 cu ft putting them into midsize segment.

1.5 civic does not compare to a new wrx sorry. Besides that they're both 4 door sedans, 4 wheels, steering wheel, turbo engines etc etc. Performance and class are completely different.

The 2017 WRX has terrible fuel economy. 24/18 vs. Civic 42/31. huge difference
That's the 6MT, not CVT. WRX CVT MPGs are 27/20. Not great, but it will whoop the ever-living snot out of the 1.5T.

CivicX 2.0NA=Impreza
CivicX Si 2.0T=WRX
CivicX CTR=STI

Even though you can compare them it's still apples to oranges of a comparison. Personally in my position I still rather have a touring civic because of the tech, creature comfort and MPG. Sporty enough to have fun with on twisty roads and comfortable enough to sit in stop and go traffic. Little bit of both worlds. If I could afford it I would get a prius for every day commute and a GT3 RS for track days lol.

and your back. From what I've heard the '15 Type R is more comfortable than a stock WRX - until you hit the R button!

I did some research on the WRX and found a number of reviews saying that the ride can be bone jarring. I'd test drive one on some rough roads if I were considering it.

I think the WRX should be compared to Si, STI compared to Type R, and Impreza compared to Civic
