Here is my Chinese VIN. No idea of the meaning, it seems very different from the american cars. It is a 220 Turbo luxury manual sedan, golden dark blue (cosmic blue)

Now that we have some VIN's for the hatch, I think the guide can be updated:

Numbers 4-6:
FC3 = coupe 1.5T
FC4 = coupe 2.0NA
FK7 = hatch

Number 7:
A = coupe manual
B = coupe CVT
G = hatchback manual
H = hatchback CVT

Number 10:
H = 2017MY

Number 11:
U = Swindon plant

Not sure if number 8 for the hatch will conform to the existing guide, but I'm guessing it will

Hi all, thanks for sharing the VIN Translator information. I just picked up my 2016 Civic Touring Sedan and I could not be happier. With a new vehicle comes a new car policy and I thought I would share my experience in case others are having the same issue.

The VIN on my vehicle specifies the equipment trim level as a Touring (8th Number = "9"). The quote, application, and temporary slip provided by my broker (Inova) aligns with this system. However, the official policy documents from the insurance provider (Scottish & York), the trim has been changed to an LX. This is on all of the documents including the certificate and car slip.

My broker has reached out the insurance provider to clarify and they were told that the trim cannot be changed as is it automatically generated using the VIN number. They reassured me that it has been notated on my file and that my documents should work as they stand. Is this something I should be concerned about? Any insights, recommendations or a advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
I bought my Touring coupe in late April, and ICBC didn't have its complete details in its system either. I'm sure it will be fine since Honda Civics are Canada's most sold car.

Last 6 digits of my VIN are 300181 and was built 07/2016 in Swindon.

So what do y'all think.....it's hatchback #300,181 or the 181st of the 3rd batch or 181st built overall???

So my car is number 30639 from Indiana my born on date is July of this year.In the the third quarter of 2016.Ive read that any next model year is in the third quarter of that year.So a car made in July of 2016 is considered a 2017 model year.But my window sticker said my car was a 2016 but the Insurance and registration says my cars a 2017.Also the 10th digit is a G.

This "always" 3rd quarter stuff is nonsense. Model Years are when the manufacturer says they are for that factory/model/body/trim. Even the link you provided says "usually" or "generally" or something like that. VIN pos 10=G=MY2016. H=2017. This coding comes straight from 49 CFR 565. Table 7 p 252.

Agreed the G says it all.the only reason I even looked into this was the description the Iowa DMV and my insurance designated my car as a 17.

Went in and test drove 2 Civics and with the help of this thread, successfully identified both as 2HG CAD VINs! The prob I think I had now is the Origin of Engine, they were just too slow off the line with some sort of delay or pause and then balls to the wall. Both were LXs, well, one an LX and the other an LX-P. I think I need an EX-T or up. The LX-P was a coupe too. I need the 1.5 turbo now for sure! Good to know!

EDIT: Cancel this, I went all Hatch!
