The lug nuts broke in half, the stud is completely fine. It gets worse though. I have brand new white wheels.......... damn shop tightened them too hard. Never letting that happen again... My impact couldn’t take em off so i tried with a breaker bar and they just broke off lol... I’ll take my own Bauer impact driver. Works great, not too tight but not loose. I’ve done my own tire rotations and never had a problem. Anyone saying don’t use a impact, you’re just scared. There’s different amounts of power in impacts. Mine is fine. The shops isnt. I only use Torque wrenches for precise things like building a motor. Anything else, stop being so exact lmao. Well anyway, I’m not sure what to do exactly without messing up the wheels... thinking I’m just gonna have to tape around the lug nut, covering the wheel, then center punch the stud, and start with a small drill bit and work my way up, being careful how deep i go and also not hitting the wheel. Eventually, hopefully, the lug nut should come off when ive drilled the entire stud around it. Then I’ll have to see how to change the studs... i might try to drill the nut instead and save myself from more work replacing the studs.. I will attach pictures. Any comments/ help is welcomed

Are those OEM? If not, what material are the lugs?

You shouldn't be using any power tools. Get yourself a torque wrench and use it.

Did you use a deep socket when initially trying to remove the lugnuts? Or did you use a regular socket?

These are security lug nuts, need to put a key on it and then a socket on it.
Here’s the key, it has two size to put over it, 19 and then 21.

Even more reason not to use impact tools. The security lugs should only be hand torqued and the last of the 5 to be torqued.

Looking at the pics, the reason the lug nuts sheared is because your wheels are too thick for the studs. Look how much thread is left on the sheared lugs in your hand. Those threads are not for show, they are meant to be in contact with the studs.
Also you should always hand torque lug nuts- kinda the reason lug nuts have a torque spec. You can impact on/off (I wouldn't but your choice), but should always be set well below final torque spec & then hand torqued to final ft/lb.

Yeah I was going to say, it looks like they were barely on there

Sure looked that way to me. Not the shop's fault/ error- though they probably should have informed you that the stud/wheel/lug nut choice were not a good combo.

As for removing the remaining piece of lug nut(s) file or grind the outer wall of the lock nut socket, so that it clears the wheel & can get a good purchase on the remaining part ( basically turn it into a thin wall socket). The locknuts are toast at this point & it might allow you to remove the remainder without shearing them. Good luck & hope it works

I would get the smallest Dremel metal cutting bit and cut the wall of the nut. Then spread the nut with a screwdriver so you can hopefully spin the nut off. No matter what you do, you are going to end up damaging and replacing the studs.
