Hi,

I have a question regarding cold start rpm's on the '17 Si sedan. When the vehicle is cold started the engine rpm's start around 1700-1900 depending on the outside temp then settle to 1700 for about 30 seconds and then will drop as the engine warms up to settle at the normal 700 rpm's. I've never had a car in the past go that high during starting so I was wondering if this is normal for the 1.5T engine. Thanks.

That's actually pretty normal. Mine at a cold start is 1500-1750 and drops to 700 after the warm up.

I had the same question. Last week for me, woke up to 39 for the temp. Started the car and it went to 2300 rpm. After about a minute it dropped to 1700. After driving 3 blocks it was down to 1100 rpm. Makes me wonder what it'll idle at when it really gets cold.

Cold start for me idles around 1700 or so and drops to 700 so sounds completely normal. Colder it gets the worse itll idle probably

That’s sounds perfectly normal for a gasser. They all behave this way.
Diesels start and immediately idle at low rpm such at 650-700 rpm regardless of temperature. Pretty weird actually.

Entirely normal! My 98 Ex would even idle above 2k RPM when it was below freezing outside. My wife's Fusion does too. F-150 same story.

As the temperatures drop during the winter, I prefer to let the car warm up until the RPMs drop to below 1k before driving. During the summer I start the engine and let it run for 10-20 seconds before driving. I personally like to give my engines at least some time before subjecting it to any load.

Yup, mine acts the same way. With the turbo and all, I like to wait until the idle drops to about 1200 rpm before I put a load on the engine. I also put the shifter in neutral and let the clutch out so that the transmission shaft will spin and circulate some oil.

Funny! I noticed the same thing this morning! But all settled as I began driving.

The temps here are hitting low teens. With these lower temps my Si is doing the same thing as yours. It's hitting 2100-2200 rpm's before dropping to 1700.

Yepper, it was 15 degrees this morning, started the car and straight to 2300 rpm. Weird part was after I took off. Driving at 25mph in 4th gear, which is 1500rpm, let off the gas to coast to the corner and the car sped up. Pushed the clutch in and started looking at everything to see what was going on. It was idling at 1700rpm, so when I let off the gas, it went back to idle, which sped me up (to 28mph BTW). Very weird thing to have happen. Will watch to see if it continues.
