Any purchase price needs to include all context like rebates, etc.. If not, it is difficult for forum members to compare their "deals".

Thank you so much for telling me this. Nabbed a black 2020 for 24k OTD, going in to do the paperwork and pick up the car on Saturday!
Taxes, rebates, etc,? Need context when giving OTD price. Better to state purchase price including destination and without rebates and TTL.

Very true! And it only included a $500 recent college grad rebate. I know they have an additional $1,000 rebate now too or something.
Yes, $1000 loyalty rebate til June 1. Hopefully that'll get extended.

I am planning to purchase an Si Coupe this Saturday. The finance manager at the dealership broke down the figures for me today. Documentation fees were $620!!! The last time I purchased a car, I paid about $100.

Am I being had? I have a feeling that the dealership is adding figures to the back end of the deal...

What has anyone paid in doc fees?

$620 sounds unreasonably high. Some states institute a cap on doc fees (like California) but many don't...assuming you're in Rhode Island as your profile indicates, then the dealer can charge whatever they want. Of course, you can - and should - negotiate that figure down. imo anything above $200 or so seems excessive.

I think I paid like $400-600 too here in NH. That’s pretty typical today. However, basically I made them lower the price of the car and then put the fee in. I told them the price I wanted to pay out the door ($22,600) and they made it work. I think it was $22,200 + $400 documentation.

Thanks. Did you buy an Si? Coupe or sedan? I find that the dealers are not dealing too much on the coupes.

2020 Sedan Si here. I could’ve had a coupe but didn’t want one. I feel they’re more rare for sure around here.

This is the quote I received in Feb 2020. Of course I rejected it but they ended up selling the car before I went any further with trying to make a deal. I am on hold right now and may wait another year or two before I try again to make a purchase.

Sales Price: - $23,141
Nitrogen: $99
Window Tint/3M: $305
All State Theft: $199
Premier Defense: $495
Doc Fee: $599
GA Tax: $1716.52
Tag & Title: $66.50
Total: $26,621.02

That price would be somewhat reasonable...were it not for the $1100 worth of add-ons.

Yes it would. I wasn't even going to go test drive it at first and I told them they would have to remove everything but the window tint for me to be interested. They replied "no problem", so I went and drove it. I liked it a lot. But didn't really want a black SI even though my current Mazda3 is black.

Drove an hour to a "nearby" dealer who had the color I wanted. They first asked for MSRP + freight and then "came down" to 25K. I told them invoice is $24,360 and was willing to pay that. They were asking $600 fees, and I said that was twice what it should be. Wanted to give me 12k for my 2018 EXT. I said we weren't even close. After going back and forth at least 3 times to the sales office (this whole car buying experience sucks) they came up to 13.5k for my car (which is at least worth 14.8 on KBB) but wouldn't budge on the price of their car. I said thanks but no thanks. I am still asking around to a few dealers that are further away. We'll see how much they need to sell a car.
