Uhmm, we’re talking about the CVT here not the manual transmission.
Actually he was responding to Myx who mentioned a scenario where manual drivers might drop the transmission into too low a gear and overrev.

The reality of that is, if anyone with a manual would drop down from say 6th to 2nd on the highway, they probably shouldn't even be driving.

I drove manuals for 25 years and always used engine braking as a way to save wear and tear on the brakes. At most you drop down one gear or maybe two depending on the speed and situation.

Anyway, back to the CVT discussion.

That's the best way to say goodbye to the tranny. Also, heel and the downshifting will help preserve the whole tranny.
