Anyone bothered with a 100 octane custom tune instead of 91 or 93?

Really considering a custom 100 octane tune for track use. Not worried about the cost of 100 just how well the motor will hold up?

I’m sure you’ll want to move the torque curve higher up in the RPMs but otherwise I think the motor would hold it? Custom 91 tunes are like 360whp/370tq right?

what would a 100 octane tune get you 410/420ish? Maybe more? Looking for real world experience or a knowledgeable tuner. Not just “look at Hondatas canned 100 tune inflated numbers”

Cost is a big factor for flex fuel because in order to get the most out of it youd need a flex fuel kit, HPFP, LPFP, and a flex tune.
flex fuel would likely be cheaper in the end. I just don’t want to bother with flex fuel, most tracks don’t have it.

they always have 100 octane though on pump

All you need for 100 octane is a tune, which shouldnt cost you more than $400

The materials alone to get a setup that will operate well on corn is more than quadruple that cost

tuned clients on 100+oct fuel and yes there improvement over 93-94octane one

after a couple $100-110 fill ups at the track it will start to add up quickly. But the 100 is just easier to me and doesn’t bother me price wise

oh I 100% know there will be power gains over 93.

I’m trying to see if anyone has done this and how everything held up longevity wise. Actual track days not drag racing or just BS’ing on the street.

Motor, clutch and transmission longevity

Interesting. Hadn’t thought of going this route… Would consider it, if able to toggle back-and-forth between tunes easily. Will ask my tuner (Salasko Racing) to see what he thinks. He was encouraging me to go to flex fuel route, but if 100 octane is readily available at the tracks, I think I prefer to go that route, also…

That said, the last time I saw 100 octane fuel prices, it was around $10 a gallon….But that was before the gas price hikes. 😭

Would 100 octane be better temp-wise? if not, I personally dont see the benefit aside from availability. If it burns cooler like E85, then it would be a nice option.

Question to the group though - why would higher octane / or even E85 be "bad" for the motor? Besides making more HP and thus more stress. Well if that's the reason then ignore my question ... but if for other reasons - I'm curious.

My current custom 93 tune is limited to only 25psi (full bolt on OEM turbo & fuel system) and makes 375hp and 399tq with plenty left in reserve. So pretty close to your estimated 100 octane numbers on Wtq.

I exclusively track mine at those power levels and often run 96 or 100 octane just due to pump availability at the tracks.

There would be plenty more WHP and WTQ in my current setup tuned on 100 (especially if we push past 25 psi). Let me reach out to my tuner, EB Tec and see if he feels like we should try a 100 octane tune. If he thinks it will be safe and reliable for the summer track heat, I'll give it a go. If not, I'll report back his thoughts and potential negatives.

One huge negative is once that wtp gets much higher, our 4th gears become the weak link.

Its not bad for the motor, but theres definitely pros and cons to each.

After I get Hondata, this was my plan, to get a 100 octane track tune (along with a 91 tune for AZ). But I'm still probably a at least a year away from that. Budget and all.

Will be interested to see if anyone ends up posting any data or other info.

Looks like I could try it and be the test mule.

Considering they want $7.50/ gallon for 91 and $10/ gallon for 100 figure it wouldn’t be that bad. $50 difference at most end of the day.
