Found this while looking at the service intervals

Inspect valve clearance (cold)

Honda Civic 10th gen 1.5L Valve Clearances burret0001

Intake: 0.21-0.25 mm (0.009 in)
Honda Civic 10th gen 1.5L Valve Clearances burret0001

Exhaust: 0.25-0.29 mm (0.010-0.011 in)

I will check mine even though I'm not due for sub service 4. As I recall late S2000's had issues with tight valves from factory causing burned valves. I will also set them to the looser side of the spec to allow more seat time which raises low end tq keeps valve temps cooler.

Did the same on the s2k I had and got it up to 167mph pulling strong

I've read the service interval recommendations a couple of times for the valves and I don't understand them. What is the service interval for the valve clearance?

Interesting, I adjusted the valves on my S2000 a few weeks ago and its recommended gaps are the identical to those. First time they'd been done on my S and some were a little tight and some a little loose. Definitely runs better now that they're all correct.

If you do check yours, please let us know how the job is. Since you've done them on an S2000 too, I'd be curious to hear a comparison also - i.e. whether the Civic is easier or harder.

Yeah I was thinking more about the process of getting access to the valves. Loosening some of those connectors on the back of the valve cover was a pain, and I had to crawl up on top of the engine to comfortably adjust the intake side because of the engine being so far back in the car.

Probably they where hydraulic lifters. Also depends on driving habbits more high revs will wear it faster

Civic have no hydraulic valves ! Are you serious . To me is a non senses in 2000 ( not in 2017, in 2000) and it is like drum brake at four wheels.

Same on my LX , manual 2 L engine ?

Yes. As noted in your owner's manual, valve clearances should be inspected when replacing spark plugs (Code 4).

• Adjust the valves during services A, B, 1, 2, or 3 if they are noisy. (USA)
• Adjust the valves during services A, 0, 1, 2, 3, or 9 if they are noisy. (Canada)

Solid lifters are more reliable than hydraulic lifters which cannot be used in high-rpm applications. Valve lash clearances are actually easy to inspect and fun to adjust on the Honda... I had to remove and reinstall the camshafts to replace lifters with thicker ones to adjust valve clearances on my Corolla.

Thank for the answer, I always had Corolla manual, my last one, a 2007 and second family car, have more than 210,000 kms with no engine and no valves issues nor adjustments done. Car is on the road.

Put gas in the tank, change oil ,brake every 90,000, kms , nothing more.

I wish Honda will be same.

I'm at 350,000 kms on the Corolla, and trading on an SI Coupe around April 2018... I adjusted all 16 valve clearances with 7 new lifters, and by switching the others around at 160,000 kms. All clearances had increased a bit since 100,000 kms, and I got tired of the ticking as some clearances were then near maximum spec. I set them all at or near minimum spec.
