Yes, it runs on intermittent settings when I disable it. However, you'll notice that it swipes every time you let off the brakes when going under 10km/h (or 6mph) speed. Just a little perk but way more useful than the auto setting I find.

This^ Lexus has been doing this on their 3.5 engines for a while with some good results. On the other hand, their 2.5 was a DI only and some had issues with carbon deposits and etc.

The Chevron cleaner should help with the injectors and the combustion chamber. But I think most DI's have issues in the intake valves if anything.
