Yes, I've done that with no issues so far!
The other thing to remember with Google Maps on a cell phone - you can do basic navigation using only the GPS. Not ideal, but on the rare times when I've been caught out in remote areas with no cell signal and no downloaded maps - it is WAY better...
Personally I'm glad my Civic doesn't have nav - I much prefer the nav capabilities of my cell phone. New cell phone every year or two = state of the art nav forever. Yes, I can download maps ahead of time in case of lack of signal.
Each model has it's own advantages and disadvantages, and what is an advantage to one person is a disadvantage to others. Whatever happened to "... to each his own "?
I have a 2017 Civic LX and I actually appreciate the fact that it only has one intermittent setting! The last two or three...

I had a 2014 Hyundai Elantra Sport 6-speed manual. Still not sure that I should have sold it... I miss the heated front seats and the sunroof. The Bluetooth connectivity worked a lot better - for me, anyway. It went around corners like it was on rails. The road feel was better.
My Civic LX...
I just bought a 2017 Civic LX 6-speed manual, and there are some things I miss, but variable intermittent wipers aren't a big deal to me. On every car I've had with variable intermittent, the precipitation doesn't continue falling at a steady rate, so I was always fiddling with them.... Level...
