Yes you definitely want to tap into the front for the best signal. I didn't even use an LOC just front speaker tap into my amp's high-level inputs and Viper4Android to tweak the EQ. Ran the signal down the passenger side and power down the driver's side.

Yeah I have a quite large ported box that takes up about 1/3 of the overall trunk in my sedan and it's only 1.65cf gross volume, so I can't imagine this is anywhere close to that. I would think it's more around .5-.75cf.

I had the same issue when I was using a micro-usb cable with a usb-c adapter. I switched to a regular usb-c cable and it solved the issue.

The cable that came with the car is just a USB extension. You have to be using a different cable to plug into the phone.
