Interestingly enough I went the other way. The Si was actually #2 for me. The big thing for me ended up being the hatchback style. Had the Si came in a hatchback trim I may have been swayed. The dollar/performance on the Si is great for sure, I just like the functionality that a hatch offers...
I still say if you really want a CTR, don't want to deal with all the BS, aren't willing to jump through hoops (ie: buying a one way ticket to middle of nowhere Nebraska) and you have a car that's in perfect working order...then wait it out.
I don't care how awesome a car is, no car is worth...
Pretty cool. It'll be interesting to see how the clutch holds up when people start trying to tune. It'd be a shame if Honda did the bare minimum with the clutch just because that's going to be a fairly significant extra cost for those looking to tune their car.
VW has this problem with their...
I don't know about this generation CTR specifically but the last 3 generation Civic Type Rs plaque numbers were random and there was no meaning behind them. Basically the person building the car just grabs whatever plaque is laying in the bin. I'm guessing that is still the case?
Congrats man! Looks nice!
I feel like most modern manuals are very easy to drive these days. Shorter pedal travel, delay valves, added pedal springs, dual mass flywheels, etc. Ironically, people that are used to the old clutch pedal feel may end up trying to bypass some of those things to give...
The numbers are a bit skewed at the moment as GTIs have been marked down by quite a bit (partly because of dieselgate and also because the facelifts are coming). I bought my '17 GTI SE 6MT for a little over $26k. DSG adds about $1k to that price. The top of the line Autobahn editions can be had...
This is what killed the Si for me, aside from not coming in hatch trim (that was actually the straw that broke me). The CTR is going to be an awesome car, no doubt about that; but it also might be a bit much as a daily. The 20" wheels alone might be an issue for those that do a lot of driving...
Honestly I got over the 1.5T thing...it doesn't bother me a whole lot anymore. I'm sure it'll still be a blast to drive.
I've decided that it's a bit silly to sell the new Si short because of the 1.5T. The price point and MPG are nice, with Honda expected reliability to boot.
My only real...
Also feel like some if it has to do with more and more people preferring to buy rather than build. Building is great if you have the money and time; but to get to the level of the new CTR (handling, engine performance, interior, braking, etc.) you would need to put a lot of work and money into...
No one really knows for sure exactly how limited the CTR will be, just that it will be limited in some capacity (a safe bet is 2000-5000, likely on the lower end of that number). Most are saying that allocation is going to be based on dealers prior sales figures, so a high volume dealer might...
I was a bit gutted with the way Honda treated their whole 10th gen. Civic lineup to be perfectly honest. Hondas decision to CVT all the things was a bit disheartening. Even though CVT is technically the perfect transmission it is likely going to have some problems long term for those who choose...
Hah! Next scene, "Oh CTR? We already sold those, yeah we sold those a couple weeks ago before they came. One to the owner's son and another to the owner's "brother"...but hey thanks for the coffee." :p
Nice!
Was looking forward to this. I know the GTI Clubsport bested the original 9th gen record; but a minor reason for that were changes made to the track post the 9th gen CTR run (speed limits lifted in certain areas). So it wasn't really apples to apples.
Good to see the CTR back on top!
Hah! Yeah I saw that review.
It's funny, when I heard about what Honda was doing with the Si 1.5T I had to keep it in perspective, at least we didn't get Nissan-ed. Back when the Sentra NISMO was a concept they were touting a 240hp engine or something. That had to of been a major bummer for...
Yeah I stalled it once already when coming out of reverse. I've never had a car with the reverse gear on the right so it tripped me up a little. The GTI is pretty quite at idle I didn't even realize it stalled at first!
You're right about the steering wheel controls for sure. The CX-3 I traded...
So I made the leap. I bought a 2017 GTI SE 6mt /w lighting package in Carbon Steel Metallic for $26.4k with all incentives (trade-in and they threw in an extra $1000 during negotiation). It's slightly more than I walked in ready to pay (I love cars, not a fan of depreciating assets but I am...
They're using the K20 motor, it's a derivative of a motor they've been using for over a decade now. So Honda certainly knows a lot about their K-series. The K20C2 (2.0L found in the base Civic) is a cousin to the K20C1 (2.0T engine in the CTR). Honda will also be using another variant of the...
Supposedly some markets will come with a spare. It's not clear if the US is one of those markets or not. So worse case scenario if we don't get the spare we could probably source one from another market.
