  1. Cams testing results.

This is the difference my "brick for flow" k20c1 made with a simple port job. 50 to 70whp gains plus faster spool everywhere. Drop in cams for Type Rs have made 40whp+ very easily and on the top end can make an 80 to 100whp difference as rpm climbs past 7300ish where the stock cams fall off a...
  2. Internal upgrades after catastrophic failure

Head porting is half art/half science I had my head ported by Jake aka JSR Engines - the race port I got opens up the head quite a bit - added ferrea valvetrain and ferrea valves as well. The stock head flows around 160cfm or so while a good race port is around 280-290cfm on these heads...
  3. Internal upgrades after catastrophic failure

Pump gas vs 105 octane e85 is a big difference as is the cooling of effect of ethanol as it burns. The problem with the drop in turbos with small hotsjdes is backpressure and reversion. The more power you try to squeeze through that hotside you get reversion back into the chamber which throws...
  4. Internal upgrades after catastrophic failure

Be cheaper to just buy a built bottom already machined and assembled. You can find a whole L15b7 in the junkyards for like 1500 Sorry about the motor - ethanol is cheap insurance against bad gas. I don't trust 91 here.
  5. Best/Cheap Exhaust

Keep your LX stock and buy a project car The LX is a dead end Will depend on budget and security as the older chassis are theft magnets. That's why I own an R. Relatively safe vs owning an EK or EG for daily use.
  6. Best/Cheap Exhaust

You'll end up with an exhaust ticket for nothing - loud isn't fast, just attracts the wrong attention I made 550whp on stock exhaust - stock Type R exhaust is all the flow you'll ever need really.
  7. Best/Cheap Exhaust

Keep it stock or use a Type R exhaust - no use getting an aftermarket exhaust for the car
  8. High flow downpipe without heat shield?

I'm making 600whp on a bare catless downpipe - iats arent much of an issue What's better js to have it coated for sure but it's not the end of the world on a street car. A giant intercooler and upgraded radiator are even better 😆 RV6 coats stuff - swaintech etc...bunch of coating options...
  9. FK8 Factory Brembo Front Brake Pads

Just get a better aftermarket pad - the stock pads are ok but not that great anyway. Paragon and a host of others sell a bunch of better pads with less dust and noise.
  10. Left disappointed with the FL5…

They are completely different bodies in white - completely different dash layouts etc As you get older you know if you want something to fit properly you have tl have it tailored to fit you vs expecting it to fit perfect off the rack. A seat is hardly modding but do you. Again - my friends...
  11. How much sound deadening is in the ‘21 FK8? Is it worth it to add more alongside a completely upgraded sound system?

Yeah that's called grand touring and there are cars designed for that aka GT cars - they are nice for high speed highway drives, quiet and comfortable - less focused on engagement, usually have a DSG or auto, longer wheelbase etc The R is just the opposite of that in design and execution is...
  12. Left disappointed with the FL5…

The FL5 is a touch better all around as its 15% stiffer than the FK8. It's also smoother, quieter, wider etc. You can also change the ADS module to the Type S to make it even smoother. As far as the seats go - you can buy an aftermarket Recaro with better rails to fit a large frame. Also...
  13. How much sound deadening is in the ‘21 FK8? Is it worth it to add more alongside a completely upgraded sound system?

Why would you want an upgraded audio system in a track car? I would imagine if smooth quiet miles are your goal the Type R is probably not ideal as it'd stiffly sprung, typically has 200tw tires which are noisy and has very little sound deadening which allows road hum into the cabin - whenever...
  14. Sad day.

What gear were you in? What fuel? Did you change the fuel filter when you cleaned the fuel out/put nee fuel in? Bad fuel is an easy way to knock to high heaven - especially on a tune I got a batch of like 89 octane claiming to be 91 , luckily we caught it on the dyno 😆 but even chevron isn't...
  15. Who has owned both Rays/Volk wheels and Titan7?

I run the Titan 7s because I don't mind damaging them - I've run Volks on my other cars and I love them but for a daily/street car the Titan 7s are more than enough and make sense. Volks look great and offer variety of looks and I would only run them for a custom offset/size to run 305s up...
  16. POLL Is a drop in turbo considered a build (more than FBO)

Everything past stock is a build - perhaps a low level build, but a build nonetheless. Build as in making better, superior etc over stock. Performance modifications are easier to quantify which is why performance is where it all started. Racing compares builds. I built an XYZ that ran ...
  17. black, while, blue ctr in Portland OR for 4k adm maybe good? maybe not, but just putting out the cheapest I've found local.

5k markup is pretty standard in metro areas. Some places are at 15 to 20k over as a negotiating position. I'm sure some podunk dealership will sell for msrp but most of them want to sell to locals vs out of the area buyers. 4k is nothing tho - if you really want the car the price...
  18. What clutch should I go with?

My stock Type R clutch held 560whp/440wtq .....it's all the clutch 99.99999% of L15 guys will ever need - I upgraded after making 600/490 for a few months. Stock R clutch is beast 💪 FX400 is ok but pretty stiff - for a daily you can't beat the stock R clutch. The retrofit kit is the best...
  19. If You Were To Upgrade From Your Type R, What Would You Chose?

As others have stated nothing really comes close as a daily for the money. Seats 4 adults? Has a usable hatch? Honda reliable? Honda running costs? Raw drivers feel? I bought my R after considering GT4s. GT3s etc ....for 40k the R was vastly less money even with markup which was super common...
  20. CVT vs FK8

No sense in buying an FK8 at 40k with 20k miles when you can get a brand new Fl5 for 45 to 50k and lower rates on financing. As far as a CVT vs R - it's like comparing water to chocolate. No comparison really. The R varies by driving habits really - someguys barely use the brakes and can...
