  1. Car battery dying repeatedly

I’ve been continuing to track the battery voltage to make sure the issue is fully fixed. Interestingly the battery seems to really like to sit at 12.2-12.3 volts. As someone here pointed out, this is considered normal in tech books. The charge drops to 12.29 volts after sitting 24 hours. It...
  2. Car battery dying repeatedly

Great news! The other dealership found the problem and they’re fixing it under warranty! They took my evidence to heart and tracked the draw on fuse 18 down to the passenger side door. It’s malfunctioning and keeping the security system awake 24/7. They’re going to replace the door handle under...
  3. Car battery dying repeatedly

I’m shocked the Honda techs couldn’t find it as well. I also assumed the draw would be small and intermittent but it appears to be large and constant. I really, really hope the techs at the other dealership can find the problem and fix it. I made an appointment for Wednesday morning and...
  4. Car battery dying repeatedly

We isolated the problem to fuse 18- “back up”, located under the hood. I know from watching a YouTube video linked below it controls a lot of things. We used the fuse pulling method. When we pulled fuse, the draw dropped from 600-700 ma to 20-30 ma. Huge difference! We decided to leave the fuse...
  5. Car battery dying repeatedly

Yes, I don’t think it should have been so difficult haha. Once I find the drain I still have to convince the dealership to fix it, which might be the biggest challenge of all. I was hoping it was just the battery in my case too, but I’ve been tracking the voltage daily and it seems to be...
  6. Car battery dying repeatedly

Originally I was going to skip the amp clamp and go with just the in- line meter you mention. However, the YouTube video above includes what seems like a great method, using both. The idea is to test the amp drop across the fuses only when the amp clamp shows a spike in amps. I think this will...
  7. Car battery dying repeatedly

I am planning to do the 3rd test method shown in this video (starts at about 31:30).
  8. Car battery dying repeatedly

We successfully latched the latch using a square shaped U bolt!! Now I just need to borrow the multi meter with an amp clamp again and finally I’ll be able to run the test!
  9. Car battery dying repeatedly

I will see if I can push down with enough force with the bolt oriented as shown in your image. I would have to remove it from the wood, so it might be a challenge. Alternatively, I am going to try to find a square/ rectangle shaped U-bolt at lowes. I found some on their website yesterday. A pry...
  10. Parasitic Current Drain, Suggestions Needed

Thank you, really appreciate the insight! I will try the parasitic draw test without latching the hood and see what I find.
  11. Parasitic Current Drain, Suggestions Needed

I have read the car needs to think the hood is closed to go to “sleep” and arm itself with the alarm. Maybe this isn’t the case after all based on your experience. I might test the amps after letting the car sit, without latching the hood and see what I get
  12. Car battery dying repeatedly

I agree it needs to be flattened. We don’t have the right tools to flatten it out so my current plan is to buy a square/ rectangle shaped bolt. I found them on the Lowe’s website.
  13. Parasitic Current Drain, Suggestions Needed

Were you able to solve this? My car too is suffering from what I’m fairly sure is a parasitic draw. For the draw test, did you get away without locking the hood?! This is the only thing holding me back from a proper test.
  14. Car battery dying repeatedly

Here is a video of us trying to engage the latch. Why won’t it click in place? ETA-I think I will try buying a longer rectangle shaped bolt. That might better mimic the hood striker. Maybe some lubricant for the latch too?
  15. Car battery dying repeatedly

I bought a U bolt to use in the latch. I am hopeful this will work! I might need to screw it into something, tbd. I think it is a little thinner than what’s on the hood.
  16. Car battery dying repeatedly

Thanks for taking the time to help! We were using a flathead screwdriver and a screwdriver with a towel, pushing down where the red arrow is. We also were using our thumb to push at that point. For some reason we get really close but not to the point of it fully latching. Maybe we just need to...
  17. Car battery dying repeatedly

we took the plastic panel off the front of the car and have been struggling with the hood latch for over an hour. We can’t seem to latch it manually or disconnect the wire to the latch. Very frustrating! Is there something we’re missing that could help?
  18. Car battery dying repeatedly

Yeah my boyfriend and Iinstalled and re-installed the battery a few times last weekend. I managed to get the insulation on there perfectly so I know it can be done haha. I’m going to be messing with it again this weekend so can fix it. Do you think the way the wires bent could affect that...
  19. Car battery dying repeatedly

Okay phew! I immediately jumped to worst case scenario. Still not happy with how the battery was installed but I guess it does the job.
  20. Car battery dying repeatedly

I look under my hood today to find this. I’m pretty sure my brand new battery is leaking acid and look at that install job. Unless it’s something they put on the battery?
