I put a picture of the two of them at the dealership on my information display screen.

I removed my cover/housing completely and unplugged the light. Even when it wasn't hanging down, it partially blocked my rear view.

It's the loose piece in the picture of the housing.

Pull straight down firmly on the housing. There is no hinge or bolt, just the two plastic fasteners.I posted a picture further down the thread. They are blue, and "post" is a good description of how they look.

Two body pins (body panel fasteners) I don't know the right name. Maybe they're clips. They are the blue things in the picture.

I took mine off. I don't know why they didn't put the whole thing at the bottom of the window. Even when the housing isn't hanging down it obstructs the rear view and may even block the auto dim sensors response time on steep hills. That's a separate issue than the brake light flooding through...

Thank you so much for this detailed guide. I kept going back to it as I worked out my own choice. I down sized to 16 inch rims with the same 45 offset as the stock Touring 17's and 215/55 studded "Hak 8" tires to go on them. Tire Rack had the rims on sale for 89US and they only weigh 17...

My husband called mine Grasshopper and it stuck.

I bought my Touring coupe in late April, and ICBC didn't have its complete details in its system either. I'm sure it will be fine since Honda Civics are Canada's most sold car.

The hatch looks great from the side and from the front, but the bifurcated bunghole at the center in the back is just too anatomically correct for me.
