I have had not a lot of experience with CVTs, only car in the family with the issue was my dads 2012 Altima. It whined worse than my car, but only when going up hills. I figured whining would be basically non-existent for Honda CVTs, as I heard they are second best in the industry and always...
So update on this, took my car on a mountain drive to give it a proper test of the transmission to see if anything comes up. During the drive, which was about 4 hours of total, all was normal during that time. Around 80% of that drive was using S shifter mode (no simulated gears), as I wanted to...
I didn't change the fluid out yet, as I found other threads with similar concerns and all with the conclusion of "apparently it's normal." I'm keeping my ears open and listening for anything abnormal. So far nothing out of the ordinary, but I will likely change the CVT fluid at 25K. As my kind...
I hear the whining as well when I just have it in sport (minus the manual shifting). It only does the whining for about 10 seconds and it goes away.
Kind of makes sense, the belt is spinning very fast in the very low ratios and that likely creates a lot of noise that resonates in the casing...
Gear whine that is somewhat normal or...?
I air on the side of caution when it comes to driving my car, as I have read countless times that one needs to be more gentle on the throttle with CVTs, especially while they are warming up.
Just to clarify, the audio recording in the "thread starter" has me driving in Sport gear selector mode and manually selecting gears, the whining noise is present in the first (SM1) and second (SM2) simulated gears. It's not nearly as loud in second simulated gear. For most of the audio...
Well either way I am screwed now. Gonna have to take everything off and go back to stock to be able to do a warranty claim, even as much as my intercooler will be enough to void the warranty.
Oh I should have clarified that the audio was recorded with my phone sitting in that compartment bellow the climate control, in front of the gear selector.
I took a listen this morning again and the sound doesn't seem to be coming from the transmission, it's somehow louder on the passenger...
It's across the whole RPM range, the noise is a lot more obvious when coasting yes. But when I apply throttle it's still there when the sound from the engine is very low.
I've recently noticed on my 2019 Civic Hatchback Sport CVT that I get a rather loud whining noise in 1st and 2nd simulated gears. The noise seems to be the most obvious when I am simply coasting down a hill in any of those gears, but low acceleration in the same "gears" will also bring up the...
I decided to do one more upgrade for my car for the end of the year, I've been on the fence about this for a while. But decided to do it, since it seems my indicators were not bright enough to grab people's attention. So that's what I did today, upgrade my indicator lights to LEDs.
I also...
I've been checking on my oil pretty frequently and today I noticed that the oil on the dipstick is coming up as a brown color, with between 50 - 60% oil life on the maintenance reminder.
Should I change it once I hit around 12K miles (which is around 5K after the first oil change) or is it...
Not much in the way of modifications currently, I'll get back to doing those early next year. But I did go out today to take some nice up to date reference photos for the thread starter. Here they are again, if you're too lazy to scroll up to the thread starter.
It's not a terrible intake, but if I had a choice I would have gone with a high flow cold air intake. But of course there are no Carb legal options out there currently, so Mishimoto intake it was.
If you do go with the Mishimoto intake, be warned that the metal box will rub on the adjacent...
Ignition coils went in last week and got the intake installed yesterday. Intake works great and sounds good. I even chrip tires a bit on occasion. The metal box does a pretty good job with reflecting heat and it doesn't get very warm.
I got mine today and installed them to check if any are defective, so far so good. Would these cause any long term problems if I ran them with the stock airbox installed? Only other performance mod I have installed is a Mishimoto intercooler for Civic 1.5T.
One thing I did notice is the...
Well I decided to go full JDM style for my cars fog lights, the yellow fog lights actually look pretty nice. I still have my Sealight 6000K LED fog lights on hand in case I will need to swap them.
This has been an issue with my car since I had it new. Basically the coolant in the tank is always below the minimum line, but it goes up to the minimum line when the engine warms up. The level stays at around half way below the minimum line and the bottom of the tank when the engine is cold. I...
Sounds about right, I have also noticed recently that when I am a bit below 1500 on the gauge that I get 1 bar of boost when looking at the turbo boost gauge. I don't think I got boost building up at that low of an RPM before.
If I am staying at a constant RPM (2000 for example), I will...
