I solved the issue by disabling the "Bluetooth headset: records audio through Bluetooth headset if available" setting under voice

You can still use all other radio functions while running Android auto. The steering wheel controls still work as well

to get the audio to work, switch the source to "audio apps"... im 99% sure thats what its called
