  1. Infotainment Failure

I wouldn’t think so. The way the internal system boards are made and how the screens interface are completely different. It would be a big effort involving software and hardware engineering skills. Not a simple hardware swap..
  2. Infotainment Failure

The key to getting my head unit replaced was providing video evidence of the issue to the service manager at my local Honda dealership. Whenever I safely could, I'd pull over when my head unit was acting up and record its behavior. I sent him 3 videos of 3 separate occasions over a 6 month period.
  3. Infotainment Failure

6 month follow up: Not a single head unit crash, black screen, etc after the head unit replacement. (knock on wood)
  4. Infotainment Failure

No, not as a download to flash your head unit or anything like that. The newer version comes with the newer replacement head unit. Old head unit software Ver. 1.F1A6.80 New head unit software Ver. 1.F1A6.82
  5. Infotainment Failure

I have long had issues with my head unit in my 2021 Type R. I always keep the head unit Bluetooth off. It does improve stability however I still would experience crashes and black screens. I ended up sending the Honda dealership service manager multiple videos of the head unit crashing over...
  6. Infotainment Failure

Do you use anything like apple/google maps or Waze? I was thinking of doing similar as I have a iPhone 6s laying around. I would want to use navigation apps but would have to connect the old iPhone in the glovebox to my main phone’s hot spot.

Also to add, I really liked the 9in Joying HU I bought. Display and sound were a great improvement but there were too many sacrifices / integration issues for me. So I switched back to stock and returned the Joying. It cost me $105 to ship back via trackable usps which they require.
  8. Infotainment Failure

It’s a crappy situation. I can see where it could be a combination of both Honda providing an inferior head unit and Apple causing bugs as well. There’s a good chance that the newer head units with the newer firmware do provide more stability and at the same time Apple could break things even...
  9. Infotainment Failure

I’m not 100% sure if the nav comes out of only the center speaker. It might be just mono and comes out of all. But honestly I could not hear much of a different from the driver’s seat. The noise on the line is only annoying to me because it exists but, you only hear it when no music is playing.
  10. Infotainment Failure

So I wrote what I did above after trying the usual fixes of removing the device pairing / re-add, disabling Bluetooth etc, no dice. But now I just did some googling and found a lot of other people with other car brands having issues. Turns out that you must have Siri enabled and if you have a...
  11. Infotainment Failure

Well, I spoke too soon…All was working perfect for a couple of weeks with iOS 16.0.2. Then I upgraded to 16.0.3 and now CarPlay won’t even start at all! I get a “not supported” error on the head unit. Unreal.
  12. Infotainment Failure

It’s It’s worth a shot. Just like the replacement worked for you so far, the iOS update worked for me…so far…knock on wood…
  13. Infotainment Failure

I would update to 16.0.2. I have not had a problem since I updated and I have a head unit with the older part number and firmware 3 revisions back.
  14. Infotainment Failure

What version of iOS is your phone on?
  15. Infotainment Failure

I was able to test for another 2 hrs driving after reinstalling my oem head unit. It did not crash once. CarPlay seems to be very stable since updating my iPhone to iOS 16.02.
  16. Infotainment Failure

Good morning All, I figured I'd share my overall experience regarding my Joying 9" head unit with 8GB RAM & 128GB storage. I bought the unit directly from Joying via eBay on July 8th. I then got panicked because of the issues noted in this forum regarding the wire harness. I quickly reached...
  17. Infotainment Failure

Did you happen to take a photo of the build number of the firmware of your OEM head unit? It would be interesting to know if it ended in 80, 81, or 82.
  18. Infotainment Failure

I understand you are frustrated. However, I'm not sure how we could possibly determine what is wrong by what you have provided. We have no way of knowing how you wired in your amp & head unit, what troubleshooting steps you have already taken, and what what settings you have configured within...
  19. Infotainment Failure

Great to hear! Have you done any of the "traditional" precautionary things such as wait until the HU is fully booted up and then connect the usb cable and phone while its unlocked...etc.. Or are you able to plug in the phone start the car and things just work without any precautionary steps?
  20. Infotainment Failure

Interesting. My 2021 purchased in Oct 2020 has an even older build: 80 vs 81 & 82
