  1. Problems after replacing thermostat and coolant

I recall I had pushed the intercooler hose aside to access one of the bolts on the thermostat housing, and it must have stressed the wiring of the coolant temp sensor, which was connected to the hose and consisted of only 2 thin wires at the connector. The service manual called for dismantling...
  2. Problems after replacing thermostat and coolant

Yeah, you are right. I'm sure the dealer also wanted to make more money from doing the full replacement than just soldering and splicing the wires as well.
  3. Problems after replacing thermostat and coolant

My car had a ton of trouble warming up over the winter. I'd drive home from work late at night (15-20 min drive) and the coolant temp gauge wouldn't even light up at all by the time I got home, if the outside temperatures were below -15 degrees celcius. I'd have the fans turned to the lowest...
  4. Problems after replacing thermostat and coolant

Yeah, the tech mentioned that it's possible to solder the wire but not recommended, because it's related to the coolant temp and engine. I also figured I'd be safe than sorry, since it's a crucial component to the car. I'm just glad it's all over now.
  5. Problems after replacing thermostat and coolant

I finally picked it up my car yesterday, turns out I had damaged the wiring of the Ect1 sensor while replacing the thermostat, as @Romeoridgee had suggested. It was what caused the coolant temp gauge to be stuck at max, car being unable to start, and all warnings lit up on the dash. I ended up...
  6. Problems after replacing thermostat and coolant

Yep, I massaged the hoses this morning and managed to get in more coolant in the end. But the car wouldn't start today unfortunately, even after jump starting. I couldn't even idle the car until the thermostat opens up, to fill the radiator. So yeah, I only managed to get about half the coolant...
  7. Problems after replacing thermostat and coolant

Thanks for the suggestions. I've decided to just bring it to the dealer now though, since I'm not familiar with the electronics on the car.
  8. Engine appears to not be sucking in coolant after coolant was drained

I don't think so, because I added coolant to an ice cold engine, and only idled it for about 5-7 mins last night and gave up. I also tried to jump start the car earlier to no avail. I'm thinking I may have damaged some wiring when moving things out of the way last night to access the thermostat...
  9. Engine appears to not be sucking in coolant after coolant was drained

I went to take another look at my car and I seem to have another problem.... So after the car sat overnight, the reservoir drained lower so I was able to add in another 1.5 to 2L of coolant. But now I can't start my car to idle it... It cranks up roughly, sputters and cuts out. I can't even idle...
  10. Problems after replacing thermostat and coolant

Our civics don't have a radiator cap to fill up coolant in unfortunately. I just followed Honda's service manual on coolant replacement and thermostat replacement, which says to drain the radiator, then drain the engine block before replacing the thermostat. And then afterwards to fill up with...
  11. Engine appears to not be sucking in coolant after coolant was drained

Ahhh thanks for the clarification! I was worried because this was my first time changing coolant, and I didn't see any mention of this anywhere online nor in these forums. If it's a false reading, then that's a huge relief!
  12. Engine appears to not be sucking in coolant after coolant was drained

Thanks for the ideas about lifting the front end and revving the engine. Do you think I should be worried about my coolant temperature gauge being at max, though?
  13. Engine appears to not be sucking in coolant after coolant was drained

Nope, I didn't idle the car long enough for the radiator fans to turn on. I recall the service manual says to idle the car until the fans have turned on twice, which was my initial plan. However, I got scared when I saw the temperature gauge sitting at max and error messages, and gave up idling...
  14. Engine appears to not be sucking in coolant after coolant was drained

Thank you for your reply. I'll try squeezing the hoses and idling longer. However, do you know if there's enough coolant in the engine to idle it, after I filled in just about 2L of coolant? I didn't want to overheat the engine, since the temp gauge shoots up to max immediately and stays there...
  15. Problems after replacing thermostat and coolant

Thanks for your reply, and the diagrams. Yes, I was aware of the orientation of the thermostat while reins reinstalling it. I ensured the triangle was pointing upwards when putting on the gasket, and there's also these 2 nubs on the gasket that seat into the thermostat housing. I've attached 2...
  16. Problems after replacing thermostat and coolant

Thanks, I'll give this a try. But did you have the coolant temperature gauge go up to max? And all sorts of errors popping up on the dash.
  17. Engine appears to not be sucking in coolant after coolant was drained

I have a 2016 civic touring with the 1.5T. I drained the coolant from the radiator and engine block to do a thermostat replacement, but upon refilling the coolant overflow reservoir and letting the car idle, the coolant level in the reservoir doesn't seem to be going down, back into the engine...
  18. Problems after replacing thermostat and coolant

Sorry guys, I have a long post here. So my 2016 civic touring had a ton of trouble warming up during this winter, in which I believed to be the thermostat stuck open. Today I drained the coolant from the radiator petcock and block heater drain plug, and replaced the thermostat with a new oem...
  19. Can a grille on an older tenth gen sedan fit on a 2019 sedan?

I recall reading in other threads that the 2019 has an updated front bumper design with a thicker center piece right behind the emblem on the grille, and therefore any grille for models older than 2019 will not fit on your 2019.
  20. Mesh grill finally installed

Damn, that sounds like quite a hassle. I thought the emblem base would be almost a direct fit, but this is disappointing to hear. Thanks for sharing what you did, I'll look into the procivic grille!
