27won states that heavier weight oil could be detrimental to lightly modded/tuned vehicles. Iād say unless youāre going bigger turbo or doing a bunch of track runs then OEM recommended oil type is totally sufficient.
Our engines are designed to operate on 0W-20 oil because there are very small clearances that the oil needs to reach. Id be curious of the reason he gave you about switching. There shouldnāt be anything about the mileage of an engine that would change the weight of the oil it needs. My guess is...

When you say you sanded to tidy up the damage do you mean you took off the rest of the gloss paint that was still on the caliper to make it match the rest of the color coat? How did you cure it afterwards?
