  1. How do you deal with difficult lane merges and stop sign crossings?

Yes, I hate it, it's all done to get the familiar soundtrack of MT at the cost of actual performance.
  2. How do you deal with difficult lane merges and stop sign crossings?

Oh yes, this CVT is programmed in a strange way resulting in unpredicted behavior when driving aggressively and even more so when accelerating suddenly. Paddle shifters do solve this problem when used properly.
  3. How do you deal with difficult lane merges and stop sign crossings?

If you have the paddle shifters, just use them to lower the virtual "gear" once or better twice (depends on the situation though) as you press the gas pedal. Makes a really big difference. Without the shifters, it's only the S mode, which is also laggy. I never use it.
  4. How do you store your phone?

This is how I store my phone.
  5. New Civic Owner!!

It's an awesome car. Welcome to the club!
  6. Brand new civic 1.5 sport sluggish

CVT often feels sluggish to MT drivers, because it drives differently and dynamics is different. Less drama. But in fact it performs better than it feels (to an MT driver). Took me more than a month to get used to, even wanted to return at some point. Now I truly enjoy how this car drives.
  7. Ways to add a little performance without tuning?

No. They work in any mode Econ, D, S, Econ/S. Paddle shifters work great in D mode, but in sport mode they are actually next to useless because 1) S is already in a lower "gear", the ratio closer to optimal power and it reacts faster to what foot does, compared to D. 2) More importantly...
  8. J. D. Power 2019 Vehicle Dependability Study

What average? According to this extract from Consumer Reports (link), it's at the very bottom: (ok, I am actually trolling a bit, but...)
  9. Is engine braking all the time bad in the long run?

Wrong. Please quote where I assumed that.
  10. Is engine braking all the time bad in the long run?

The question is whether it's at all possible to cause increased CVT wear by engine braking. Moving D to L must be safe in any situation, since it's computer-controlled. Using paddles must be way more foolproof than engine-braking with manual transmission. You can't over-rev the engine no...
  11. Is engine braking all the time bad in the long run?

Why would that be not ok? My understanding is that D and L are just different presets used by a computer that controls CVT so that it uses a lower virtual 'gear, but always within the a safe range. That's what that computer is for. I have paddles that I use them to affect gear ratio all the time...
  12. False positives & Unwarranted braking - Collision Mitigation Braking System

I have had Civic Sport for six month now. There was one false positive where the car tried to brake in a complex traffic situation (I am in Israel, everyone drives like crazy here, the traffic situation is always complex), there was no good reason for that. I instinctively quickly pressed the...
  13. CVT Transmisson

Avoid driving too hard and sell earlier?
  14. How often to "work out" the engine ?

Sure it can. For a while.
  15. 1.5t bogs down or hesitates when accelerating from a stop...is this normal?

Owner of Civic Sport 1.5 CVT here and all I can say is that I am pleasantly surprised on daily basis how smooth the car can accelerates whether accelerating hard or easy. There's noticeable acceleration boost when turbo kicks in, but it's still pretty smooth. There may be some hesitation when...
  16. How well does LKAS work for you?

I don't really need it for my commute but LKAS worked surprisingly well for me when I tested it on relatively long distances (~30-40 min drive) on Israeli highways. Majority of cases where it does stupid things is when a lane splits in two or merges with another lane or road marks are not clear...
  17. Paddle Shifter Thoughts

I find paddles very useful in D mode. Mostly these situations: 1. Before making a turn for engine braking and following acceleration. It's exactly what one would do in MT. Sometimes I use it just for slowing down with or without brake pedal, and unlike MT there's no associated clutch wear. 2...
  18. Troubles Plague Honda CR-V 1.5-Liter Turbocharged Engine - recall

No. It's an electric issue. This is what the author says in the comments: "i disconnected my battery then unplugged the ecu, let it sit for 5 minutes then plugged everything back in, hasn't done it since".
  19. Can some explain how manual shifting works with CVT?

Exactly my point. Actually looking at numbers in that article I'm not sure I trust it anymore. It says: There is no way it takes 12.4 seconds on Mazda with 2.5 engine to accelerate 50-70mph no matter what method is used. I checked http://www.zeperfs.com/en/fiche5498-mazda-3-2-5.htm, it claims...
  20. Can some explain how manual shifting works with CVT?

So you say the loss is attributed to the torque converter, not to CVT itself (the belt)? Btw I gave a wrong link.. I actually referred to https://practicalmotoring.com.au/car-advice/continuously-variable-transmission-explained/ If all you do is constantly accelerating, that's true and at some...
