Anyone torching head gaskets is all tuneup. We run OEM gaskets and Cometic MLS gaskets at 1700hp and 85psi boost.
OEM gasket on my Type R. 4 years of track days, thousands of laps at 600+hp, over 900 hp on dyno. I've never touched my engine. Never lashed it, hardly changed the oil on time...
The VTC control in the OEM ecu isn't exceptional. Some of that can be smoothed out by the tuner, but not all of it. Also, the logging is extremely slow so the data is somewhat questionable.
In Motec we can dumb the cam control down and eliminate all that moving around. When I say dumb it...
The valve train can be noisier with the heavier pressures for sure, but most of what you are hearing is the VTC gear. If its on the fuel pump side, then you are hearing the pump.
Motec isn't required for TR3, but not everyone has figured out how to effectively tune them on stock ECU. With a ported head and TR3 the engine is breathing much better, and jumping back and forth between tables....the main VE table you do not have access to. I can point you to someone who has...
I have just finished testing of the TR2 Drop-In camshafts in the FL5 Civic Type R and am doing a similar write-up now. I'm not sure if it is interesting to people here, but I will probably share it here at well.
I also am posting some differences in the engines on our IG. These engines are...
Bumping this up again. I run into this weekly with these "etunes". The logs from these mail in flashes are frightening. We don't tune engines like this in motorsports guys.....get on the dyno with a competent tuner and show some respect to the money you spent on your project.
The spring can handle the cam. That was the whole point in the design. It isn't that the cam is a ton larger....its a little larger and we open and close the valve faster. Now...if you overspin the motor that is a different thing. It will float just like it will with a stock cam.
We are working with Jason's car the next couple weeks. We will put more info out when we are finished. The goal is a drop down selection where you can select the cam. We want to verify that there is enough fuel system capacity to make this clearly safe and smooth.
I recommend Ferrea valve spring if you are going to turn over 8000. The OEM valve spring can't control the valve up there. Also be aware of your fuel pump control up there.
Plenty of guys are turning well over 8000 with these cams now, but most of those have the supporting mods to do that.

Seeing lots of guys chiming in on Social Media with fantastic results with TR2 and TR3. Happy to see people got the 3s sorted with their tuners :) They are a game changer. 650-900hp Type Rs with more rpm in the playground....just like it should be
A couple observations over the past several weeks. I've sold now hundreds of sets of cams and have had amazing results. There are a few stragglers that have had some issues with the ECU and some engine codes. So far most of those have been mechanical issues related to installation...maybe a...
It seems like people are having no issue making 400 on pump gas, just as we did easily in testing. I've seen a number of people post their 400hp pump gas stuff with no ethanol, no meth, no special stuff. We made 415 pretty easily on a basic bolt on car and pump gas.
These pumps are lubricated during assembly and are fine for dry start. The OEM starter doesn't turn enough rpm to build pressure fast, so it is harder on your engine to prime with the starter than it is to just let the car fire up and get on with it.
With more and more people turning beyond...
We are making fixed cam gears just like our normal K20 cam gears with the pins and ARP hardware.
I was really hesitant to do these for these engines because I have yet to see any engine builder putting my cams in and degreeing them, which will be required with fixed cam gears. I've been...
It is tune related, but I've been told that with Hondata the TR3 is difficult because you don't have access to the VE table that needs to be adjusted. I did this myself here and did not have an issue, but I've heard others say they have run into this with the TR3 only, not the TR2. The...
I made one from a piece of angle and bolted it to my pedal. One side of the angle has a nut with adjustable bolt, the other has 2 bolts that bolt it to the pedal. I'd show a pic but the car is in the top of my trailer and I can't open the doors.
Being that you have the code on stock cams and on the TR cam...I'd be checking that timing again. I've had 2 engines that were sent in this year where their engine builder checked and checked and verified....soon as we popped the side cover off we could see it was off a tooth.
Past that, you...
