Sounds to me like all of the performance-oriented stuff has a give and take factor associated with them. I believe you mentioned that the Brembos also require some special care to avoid rusting out...always good to think ahead on stuff like this.
He might like the STI's 14 year old EJ257, still spinning bearings, breaking pistons in stock form. Or maybe he likes the boxer engine design with its doubled heads, doubled camshafts, doubled valve covers, split crankcase, and separate crank pins.
Man I hope we get Polished Metal Metallic or Red in the coming few years. I will never own another black car again (they look great but SUCK to keep clean and scratch-free), and white cars are just not my thing.
I'll do you one better. I'm waiting until early - mid 2019, just to see how the next gen STI turns out. It doesn't mean I'll buy either car, but I like to have options available.
Waiting that long also gives Honda the opportunity to work the bugs out with regards to the Type-R and to the engine...
How's the clutch on it? Is it nice and heavy? Also, how linear is the power in 1st and 2nd gear? I know you didn't push it so the turbo didn't kick in, so I'd be interested to know how it feels off boost.
What, really? New cars run the AC off the battery directly? My 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 definitely bogs down hard when the AC is running to the point where 1st gear can feel gutless from 2000 RPM to 3000 RPM which leads to really slow off-the-line acceleration, and it's something that I really hate...
I don't think I've seen an answer to this before, curious to know how it drives on the street from a stoplight 1st - 2nd - 3rd when the AC is running at full tilt.
Were you told by the dealer? I'm not doubting you, just curious as I would have to DD the Civic Type-R (if I get one), and we can get severe winters up here in Canada.
I'm the opposite. I'm pleased to see them hitting the road here and in the USA before I even think about getting one. Various problems will surface (rev match issue) and get fixed during production, and it gives Honda the chance to prove that they're committed to producing the Type-R for the...
I didn't want this discussion to go down this path of comparing the cars themselves, when I wanted to compare the differences (good and bad) between Honda Inline 4 engines vs Subaru Horizontal 4 engines. I'll just say that the next gen STI better have a new engine (hopefully that 2.4L from the...
Right, but I wanted to avoid THAT comparison. I only care about the one engine type (inline 4) vs the other (horizontal 4). I wanted to know which engine type is better.
Well, it was more of a question about a Honda inline 4 vs a Subaru horizontal 4. Engine configuration and technological differences, and nothing at all to do with the K20 vs the EJ.
Forget FWD vs AWD, weight difference, styling, etc.
Based on engine type and manufacturer reputation - that is, a Honda inline 4 vs a Subaru horizontal 4 - would you choose a Type-R over the STI, or vice versa?
Honda inline 4 pros:
- easier and cheaper to manufacture
- less complicated
-...
